Help in applying for residency in US (US citizen who finished medschool in Poland)

    Advertisements

Hey, I'm looking for help and any suggestions what should I do exactly when wanting to apply for residency in US. A quick bio about me, I'm an US citizen who moved to Poland in my teens. There I finished medschool and I'm currently in my Family medicine residency in Poland. I'm planning on moving back to USA because of family troubles and would want to practice medicine. Does anybody share similar experience? I'm totally clueless and looking for help.

If you plan on pursuing family medicine residency training in the USA, you will have to apply through ERAS for the NRMP, register with ECFMG, and start all over as a PGY-1 (Intern).

There’s no other way around it.

The ACGME will not credit your family medicine residency training in Poland toward US training. Bottom line.

Every IMG goes thru this process universally.

That's your plan going forward. Get going and get your paperwork in!!!

All of the above is true, and you must also take the USMLE Steps 1, 2CK, 2CS (and eventually 3) in order to make that happen. This is not a quick (or cheap) process, so you will want to jump on it immediately. You simply cannot move the process forward without the Steps.

    Good luck to you!
