Launching in the Fall of 2015, "Medical School DOT TV" video and educational resources for potential, new and existing medical students.
Come on cheerleaders give me an O, give me an N, give me L, give me an I, Give me an N, give me an E, whatz that spell? Shout it LOUD!!!!!!!!!! ONLINE!!!!!!
How laughable would it be if the top medical school professors from the top medical universities in the world were collectively utilized to create an online medical school, intentionally or unintentionally? I offer unintentionally because I would simply ask is it "simply laughable" when video medical school course from the top medical school professors are traded as torrents on p2p networks. What happens when these courses become available to be zipped-up and downloaded, shared live as you tube style videos, or even cheap DVD's of medical school year 1 and 2 being sold in china town for $1 a course?
In 10 years when half the medical schools in the world offer many of their medical courses online, what do you think is going to happen? Online people registered for those particular schools will be the only ones to have access to these online videos? Do you really think these course wont be leaked across the Internet and made available to everyone?? Is there any reason why once they are leaked people won't watch them and learn from them? If I can watch the best medical professors in the world, do I really need to go to an expensive medical school to get a good education? Can I utilize these videos and go to a real medical school in person, as an example and by using both the videos and live courses get a solid education? Do I need to go to the courses live? Is there any reason I cant get a good medical education watching DVDs and studying from home?
The possibility to download these video medical courses, share them, make them available to others for free (heard of pirated movies???), will start the global review process (forum chatter) whether underground or above ground, and as a result, the best courses, from the best professors in the world will be available to every person in the world for free (blah blah blah copyright law). So he-he-he ha-ha-ha, it's really laughable that in the future it will be possible to learn medicine from the best medical teachers in the world for free. he-he-ha-ha, giggle-giggle, You can take that to your "simply laughable" bank (that just got bailed out) and CASH IT. Ten years is my prediction, that's the year 2020, can you see it clearly?![]()
Is it really that complicated, far fetched or unfeasible that professional media specialists with video cameras would be allowed into medical courses with the medical teachers providing full permission, as well as the medical school administration? Do I really need to sit in a class room to learn didactic medical school information, when I can learn it from home in my lazy boy chair watching these videos on a flat screen monitor while I have the medical book pertaining to the course in my lap? Is there an advantage to me spending a zillian dollars to go to medical school in person, instead of learning this material at home? No, I'm not talking about the 2 years of clinical training (med school year 3 and 4), I'm talking about the didactic course work people go through over the first 2 years of medical school (med school year 1 and 2) should be available online. Even pre-med could be be done online. You want to talk about testing? There is a test that determines if you learned anything in medical school and if you are worthy or not of being a medical doctor (within reason), it is called the USMLE. If I pass the USMLE after doing 2 years of an online medical school over the Internet, am I not ready to do 2 years of clinical training in person? Am I not as good as someone that went to medical school in the traditional way (in person)? I would never suggest clinical would be done online.
Your Quote:
As far as your prediction goes, the idea that there will be 1000 online schools better than Hopkins, Vienna, Trinity-Dublin, any of the Ivies, or Karolinska (etc.) is simply laughable. Online schools are very (VERY) rarely even remotely competitive for a reason, and the other moving parts that make a medical school excellent (world class hospital affiliations, groundbreaking research, first rate facilities) cannot be digitally duplicated in a manner than means anything.[/QUOTE]

not gonna happen. As of right now I don't know a single state in the US that will give you a permanent license for a basic sciences completed in an online format. Also if this were to happen it would be simply due to a recommendation by the AMA to the state boards and US schools to create and allow such programs. THEN the ball would roll, but since the AMA doesn't really want the large influx of non US students that this would create, and there is no real gain for them, I highly doubt this will ever happen.
I think its perfectly doable. Online classes could easily substitute for most basic science classes. And I think the future holds online medical classes. If there is some sort of accreditation or implementation guidelines then it will make the switch smoother.
Why not just use Kaplan dvd's? Watch them over and over, and you will do well on the USMLE![]()

Medical school is about the transmission of culture as well as knowledge. On-line schools will be prevented for establishing themselves, though on-line material will expand greatly.
It would not be inconceivable that all the existing medical schools in the world incorporated online training materials into their "brick and Mortar" programs. In fact it would be an excellent addition to their existing programs.
Imagine the benefit to humanity of having a free online medical school, which would enable every person across the globe to have access to hopefully the sum total of medical knowledge and information in the world. For this to happen, every medical book every produce, every medical audio training program and every medical video program would have to be made available from this web site in an easy to use digital format. People would be able to review the material online, or download the material to review at their own pleasure.
