Do admissions committee favor students that are selfpay compared to needing loan

    Advertisements

Just curious, but do you think it is easier to get into certain schools if you tell them you're a self-pay student, compared to that of needing financial aid? After all, these schools are a business, and I've seen from time to time students deferring a semester due to financial aid issues.

Admissions is more concerned with whether or not you are a solid candidate who will make it through, because the further along you go, the more money they will actually get. They will frown upon a candidate who looks like they may fail or flunk out completely, costing them about $100,000 in income over your four years there.

The school gets their money either way. The day your loans don't come through or your folks stop paying you are out!

It would not surprise me if there are some that do, especially smaller new offshore schools, which you should avoid anyway.
