    Research?

Are there any barriers for foreign MDs who wish to go into research instead of clinical practice? Is it difficult for foreign MDs to get research postions?

    Research for FMGs or IMGs

It is called PDF, or Post Doctoral Fellowship, you can enroll at major Universities, and pursue academic fellowship position without any problems.
Postdoctoral research - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Clinical PDFs almost always prefer an MD over a PhD

You can seek positions via this national association:
NPA Home | National Postdoctoral Association

Also, Many IMGs do PDF then can get residency, it is one way of improving your credentials and getting your foot in the door.

Most Universities require that you are ECFMG and Fluent in English !!

Few of my Alumni at UHSA are completing their PDFs, if you are interested I can message you their info...

    Regards,

PDF positions for IMGs / FMGs

Post Doc Fellowship Clinical Research for IMGs or FMGs:

PDFs Research is university dependent, based on work required, etc....
Avg PDF is similar to the salary paid to R1 / Resident, i.e. 50,000$ per year.

If you are MD, PhD salary usually is higher in the $75,000 - $90,000 range !

Many CARICOM MDs do PDFs to get access into Residency Placement, also not a bad idea !!

Hope I was able to help.

    Cheers

In undergrad, I worked with many many many many post-docs from foreign lands. Most of them were insanely intelligent and driven.
