Medical Limbo - What to do between Med school and residency

    Advertisements

    Hi everyone,

I don't know if I'm the only one thinking this right now, but since some of us are in this part of our lives where med school is ending but there are a few months before residency, I was wondering if there are any suggestions on what we can do? Are there any medically related jobs out there? Or is research the best way to go? During my interviews, I came across a fellow candidate that actually graduated from my school a year ago and is working at a Family physician's office seeing patients and doing h&ps. Does anyone know how I can find this kind of job?

Consider teaching at a vocational/ career college. Some place like Devry or a Community College.

You could also teach Basic Science course at he undergrad level at most community colleges as an =adjunct woith your credentials.

University of Phoenix might appreciate your services as an online instructor for basic stuff.

Go get you CPR Instructor credential and teach that to professionals. you can charge $50 to $150/ person to get them certified or renewed. Depending...

Consider tutoring folks for the MCAT or contact Sylvan or other learnign centers that offer MCAT, SAT, GRE prep courses you can teach and proctor for them.

Yes research is an option iof someon want to take you under for so short a time.

Medical Mission work might look good on your resume

Volunteering at a homeless Clinic would also provide a paycheck of the heart!

Find a doc in the box or private practice that might need help with sports and back to school physicals they can legally hire you as an Medical Assistant in most states but pay you whatever they want so long as they are willing to be liable for your performance.

    GOOD LUCK!

trust me you will be busy enough between march and june that you won't have to really find something to do...there will be a lot of paperwork that needs to be completed for your program and your med school, ecfmg cert, etc...

then if you are going to relocate, you will need the time to visit the new place, find a place to live, move, and so forth....then there is graduation....

you can always travel and if there are people you want to visit or places to see, then do it...you will have prescious little time or energy once you are in your intern year...the last thing you want to do is something medical...trust me you will get plenty of it for the the next year (and the next, and the next...)

That is only if you graduated from your medical school. If you graduated, then yes, you get M.D. after your name regardless if you have done residency or not. You are also called Dr. XYZ. In some states, you can actually practice medicine w/o doing residency.
