Re-Apply in the US or Apply to Caribbean

    Advertisements

So I've found myself in the middle of a very difficult decision.

I don't expect to be accepted to a US medical school this year and am trying to decide whether to try to get in to a Caribbean school or re-take the MCAT, get some more experience and re-apply to US schools next year....obviously requiring me to take a year off from school.

    I have a 3.7 GPA, research experience, tons of volunteer work, and some clinical experience....but, I made a 25 on the MCAT (P-9, B-10, V-6). =(

    Opinions?

Have you applied to any DO schools? You're stats aren't bad and you're definitely within the medians for many of the newer DO schools such as Rocky Vista, PNWU, or LMU-DCOM.

Don't mean to incite a riot here...(DO vs. MD)...but the simple truth of life is that, for purposes of licensure and getting a competitive residency, you are 100X better off at the worst domestic school...than if you go foreign.

Assuming the worst domestic schools are better than anything foreign, do you know what any of the Lower-tier (ie easier to get into) MD schools are in the states?

consult the princeton reviw book or some other book with med school admissions stats to find out the individual stats for each school. im sure its online somewhere too. keep in mind that "lower- tier" and "easier" are extremely relative
