Will someone please tell me why it is more favourable to start school in Sept compared to Jan/May or vice versa?? How does it affect residency in terms of the time frame?

    yes

hundreds start in may or january. some schools have these start days (Ross; SGU has january). When is better? When you've been accepted. Do not delay for theoretical reasons (i.e. its "better" to start in jan cos then you have x months to study for the exams). It never really makes a difference expect to delay getting your education underway.
