I'm applying to just ONE school, Poznan (PUMS/KMU). a mistake?

    Advertisements

so far, for me, poznan makes the MOST sense. and it the school i'd be able to adapt to most easily, (from what i've researched), large population - not a cap. city, so not TOO large...close student base. ideal living quarters. rich history (in terms of school and city). 2 hour train ride away from berlin. track record established.

i've not read to many posts of students critisizing the school. a good thing?

of course, the only school where MCAT's not mandatory...

i'm applying to ONE school - Poznan - ...is this a risk i'll be regretting?

btw - i just got accepted to Temple School of Dentistry.........

............I'm turning it down (my friends, family, and professors think I'm MAD, and have lost my marbles).........but i WANT to be a physician, i will not enjoy Dentistry...

...I applied to Dental Schools, because It was a back up to medicine. Now, that I've heard of Abroad Schools with less stringent requirements, (gpa averages), i've decided to go MEDICAL

    thx, whuds

yeah, from what i know, i'll be taking polish 1 and 2 during the first two years. year 3 + 4 clinics require this in Poland...

...a lot of the Senior Citizens of Poland speak German - this is GREAT - since i'm quite proficient in deutsch!

but i think i'll start learning polish next year in jan! even though interviews are not until March!

from what i've heard, polish is MUCH harder the German, but come from the same language backgrounds...

It is really not that hard to get a US residency once you are done, All the clinicals from what I know will be green book from there.

I've known one or two docs who went to Poland in the states
    Good Luck.

    Pums

I only applied to Poznan. After a lot of research and self assessment. Just remember California is out for the moment and you may limit your residency picks. It is working fine for me.

most carib schools, (or at least the one's i've looked into), require the MCAT. i havn't taken the MCAT. I took the DAT (for Dental school)...

For the DAT, i studied an ENTIRE summer, and scored in the 92nd percentile for overall science, and 99.2nd percentile for biology...

...BASICALLY --> I STUDIED MY NUT SACKS OFF FOR THIS ONE! because my gpa is only 3.20,

i know the MCAT is much more involved, and i don't want to put myself through the process again...besides, the MCAT is offered in APRIL. and that is 'TOO LATE IN THE GAME' for me, in terms of getting accepted Fall '06.

In addition, a friend of mine got accepted TWO WEEKS before med school even started, somewhere in the carib!! To me, this is a WARNING SIGN EVERYWHERE, stars are flashing above my head!!!

Okay, I'm sure there are 4 year Med Schools not requiring MCAT's in the carib, that are also NOT dodgy enough to accept students 2 WEEKS before classes!!! or maybe not? i just havn't looked hard enough, i guess...

as for jag - same thing - MCAT scores, otherwise - i agree, a great place to spend 4 years of med school, (so it seems)

    The ONLY 'if', gvanderv...

    ...the ONLY IF!

i REALLY do not plan to practice in Cali. Although I DO understand that 'other' states may 'hop on the bandwagon' WITH cali...

...i know NY seems to be a popular destination. How about Florida (that's where i'm from)

I know there is another student in Poznan, also from Florida (it was in his sig).

ONE QUESTION (if you don't mind), will i need to 'limit' my residency pick, because i probably will not do too well on the USMLE (i honestly take NO offense - ZERO, NADA, KEINE, NIL, NONE, - i'll be just glad if you tell me how it is ......

....or is it because of the 'nature' of my 'status' or 'position' as an FMG?

Well, i'm SURE it's a combination of Both. I probably answered my own question.

    Thx for the post anyways

    Pums

I am from Florida. You will have problems getting the dream residency as a USFMG. Unless a primary care field is what you are looking to do.

is that because i am a USFMG? or is it because USFMG's don't do so well on the USMLE?

i know this is a tricky question for you to answer (so you don't have to)

it's just that, i was told (as a future FMG - fingers crossed), to KICK BUTT on the USMLE, get Great Recs. from Drs in Poland. And get some great clinical training...

...and just do the 'extra mile' stuff required from an FMG (which I'm STILL trying to figure out).

Then, isn't it the slightest 'bit' possible to land that 'dream' residency...

...most likley, i want to work in a population, where access to healthcare is limited, and the competition (from what i hear) is not as competitive...

...having said, that, i will do my BEST as my physical and mental limits allow in Poland, to make sure i have the opportunity to keep my options OPEN...

...from what you are saying, is it completely out of the picture? You know - that 'Dream Residency'.
