Thank you Miklos for all your help so far.

Been told from a current 3. year student at Pecs, that last year only one person managed to pass his/her exams within the normal exam period in the 3. year. The rest had to sit in and study all of summer and try to pass just before school start. Basically I was told the reason for this was that the patho. in Pecs is really hard. I have been looking around different forums and from what I have understood so far, it seems to me that most complaints about difficult exams come from students studying in hungary and mainly Pecs, Szeged (not so much Debrechen). I am aware that the curriclum is the same in Hungary and in general EE.

Spoke to a first year student at Pecs. She told me that in fall 2004, 120 students started the english program, and only 80 are left 2 weeks before exam time. By the time the Summer exams are over 30 more will not make it. How is this possible. I know there are some people who go to EE and dont really want to be there( parents sent them, party too much etc.) but really over 50% failing the first year?!?!?

I am aware that the program is almost the same in EE, but how is the failing process possible. On the Pecs student forum(Thank you Miklos for the link), I read that the University has promised not to take in more than 120 students this year. But still I wonder, is the same going to happen. Over 50% who fail the first year alone?!?!?

Can someone please shed some more light on this. Maybe a current or former student at Pecs (other hungarian universities), or someone else for that matter.

Thank you all in advance. (This forum has really helped me alot so far)...

    Are you motivated?

Read this once more and think it over again!

Every school in Hungary (and many in the region) have no problems admitting people to the first year of an English program. They know that a significant amount will fail out shortly, because:

-They don't want to be there (e.g. their parents sent them)
    -They aren't prepared academically.
-They aren't willing to put in the work (e.g. too much partying)
-They won't be able to adjust to the culture, living abroad, etc...

From their standpoint, it is win-win. The "good" students pass, while the "bad" students fail.

The successful students get around these problems.

    1) They either already know the material or work hard to learn it.
    2) They go to lecture and/or make sure that the professors have positive opinions about them.
    3) They demonstrate enthusiasm and adjust to the culture.
    4) They take their exams in time (and do not postpone them!!!)

    Miklos
I am in the first year at pote and i enjoy my time and most of my friends feel confertable to be here, since they enjoy studying..
The drop out is very high but there are many reasons for this, two major reasons are that 1) They took in to many students with low grades and performance at the entrance exam 2) Some subject are VERY difficult here, eg the anatomi(everywhere but seems to be EXTREME here), Biology in pecs is not an easy thing because Seberenyi requires MUCH but you also have on of the best lecturer in bio in hungary(probably in the world as well).
Later i dont know what problems students encounter because i havent been interested to check future problems when it comes to the academic part. If you study and work hard its no problem and you will enjoy your stay in pecs, i can recomend it, but you should be MOTIVATED, this cannot be stressed enough. The students that failed/ going to fail are usually those that think that after you have graduated you will make a lot of money, but they dont understand how big this profession is!!! Some subjects can be read in 2 weeks before the exam but 90 % cannot and thats way people fail. We are about 85-90 here now but my guess based on the performance on anatomy test so far + bio, we will be a nice group of approximately 40 students next year, i just hope that i will pass
Out of these "40" very few would fail later because if you pass the first year here you are good enough its just the motivation and your habbits on the weekends that can stop you. I actually look forward to start the exam period now since this is the only way home!!!
Feel free to ask if it is something, i will try to answers with the best of my knowlegde
