How difficult is it to get in ??

    Advertisements

    Hi guys !

I became very familiar with the Carribean medschools, but I have ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE about the European schools. I know that they have english programs for international students, but I mean, each time I go on to their sites, the never post anything concerning the GPA requirements or the MCAT. So can u guys please be kind (and honest preferably) to tell me about how realistic it is when it comes to the GPA question. How much is realistic to get into the European programs. In other words, what's the GPA they are asking for ?????

    thanks guys! :P

IMO, it is for the most part a buyer's market.

    Getting In

I'm no expert by any means but the programs that are 6 years require nothing but some high school science courses. Don't know about 4 year progs as I am going in for 6 years.

Other than that from what I understand you will likely get in, especially in Russia. As to whether or not you will succeed once you are there is much more up in the air.

Which schools specifically are you considering?

I wouldn't say it's a buyer's market for European schools in general at all, but if it's the "Eastern" European ones, then you stand a very good chance for the 4 year programs if you have a 2.5 GPA and have sucessfully completed the prerequesites. I would venture to say that a 2.0 would get you in the door, as well, but the only way to know for sure is to apply.

By the way, what is your GPA and MCAT score?

In Eastern Europe, getting in the door and graduating are two completely different ball games.

As the above poster suggested, a 2.5 GPA (maybe even 2.0) may get you in, but as for graduating I hope you learn to study effectively in the mean time because there is no guaranteed graduation.

I agree with euromed completely.. Eastern European schools, like the Caribbean ones, will give you the opportunity to study medicine.. You have to make it happen though. The education here is unlike the spoon-fed education we get back in the States, so you have to be very determined and self-motivated to study for exams here, as well as prepare for the USMLE. Already, I'm seeing classmates in my first year (not a lot but several) who are not doing well, either because they are not able to assimilate into the 4-year American/European style program (not to mention the culture) or simply do not have the self-discipline to study effectively for our exams. And not to be fooled, these classes are by no means easy. They're every bit as difficult as programs back in the States. However, I can only speak for my school because I have no experience with other programs, although I would imagine they are similar.

    thanks guys !

I deeply appreciated the honest insides !

my cumulative GPA is around 2.9-3.0 and my science GPA is around 3.2 and I have no MCAT, and I don't wanna spend the next 6 months 10 hours a day to study for it! (not cause I'm lazy, but I have to work and pay for myself... so I hope u guys understand) ..

I'm very interested in the European programs (the Polish ones for now.. because I have no idea whether other countries offer the same programs and I have no CLUE how to get the info) However, I'm quite concerned with the USMLE once u get urself into the European programs, cause they are not oriented towards these tests and god knows USMLE is NOT a piece of cake!

My ultemate goal is to pratice in the US, because I have a punch of family there. However, I feel like not having enough information right now to make the right decision, AND U GUYS CAN HELP ME WITH THIS!

    thanks again! :P 8)

    EE schools

Most of the EE schools have two ways to get in. In Hungary, you either successfully complete a one year basic medical science curriculum and then matriculate into the 1st year class, of if you take an entrance exam and meet a minimum threshold, you also gain admittance to the 1st year. If they see you struggled on the entrance exam, then most likely you will start BMC. either way, you get your chance to study medicine. But warning...the attrition rate is high!!! These are NOT easy programs and require a great deal of self-discipline and smarts. But most medical schools aren't easy, so come visit. Prague, Budapest, Debrecen look up old post and come to visit. good luck 8)

Did you see the sticky regarding Eastern European schools? It has a bunch of school listings and websites as a reference. If that doesn't answer your question, just post questions like you've been doing or do some searching on the internet.

Don't get too worked up over the USMLE issue. There are many, many study aids to prepare you for the exam. Check out the USMLE-specific forums for assistance. Just make sure that you prepare yourself well in advance with a study plan, and you should be fine.

    Easy Peasy

its easy to get into any of these schools.

they hold a mirror underneath your nose and see if it fogs up. if it fogs up they go to step 2. step 2 is while they distract you with the mirror trick they do a careful wallet biopsy to make sure you wallet has not metastisized to other places. step 3 youre in.
