What is the chance after 45 :(

    Advertisements

    Hi guys,

I need your opinions.. please be cruelly honest:

I am a 45 year old person who had a 2 year university degree in software development and worked in that field for more than 8 years.. later my daddy had CVA and from then on I took care of him.. I cant see what future brings and my first priority is my daddy.. if you could see him, you would eat him up that sweet

and someday he will die and I am used to live and take care of myself alone.. since I have always loved medicine, I consider to consider medicine.. actually I consider this for years, and I tried to keep myself up and running.. I studied biology, molecular biology of the cell, general/organic chemistry.. also I took SAT Math1 & 2 and had scores higher that that years international average (720 over 800 from Math1 and 690 from Math2)..

People expects me to be a housewife.. I am not.. but after 45 my faith is fading.. but I have to be productive and earn money, take care of myself.. after 12 years of a leave, software business is dead now.. in any case I will need an education and I want it to be in health sciences, medicine if possible..

What is your opinion? Is there any chance at this age in any one of the med schools on earth?
Everything you can say is valuable.. Thanks in advance..

By the way, I perform all every medical procedure which can be done out of hospital, like dressings, infusion/injections, bladder irrigation, blood/urine sampling, catheter change etc... of course by the orders of daddy's doctors..

You know I truly admire that. Its so easy to say you're going into medicine to help people when you're getting the intellectual stimulation, the social status, the big pay check etc.. But its truly remarkable when people put their lives on hold to care for another human being.

Now, medicine is definitely an option at any age. I was in basic science with people your age. However, there are some things you need to consider. It will take you at least 8 years from now to finish and make any money. During this time you will not be 'productive', in fact, you will be accumulating vast amounts of debt (assuming you don't have a bank account with 200K in it). The level of stress you will put yourself thorough is considerable. I don't know what your family obligations are beyond your father, but those may come into play as well. But like I said before, there are great benefits to going MD route as well.

For someone in your position, PA may be a good alternative option. 3-4 years to active, independent practice, doing essentially the same thing you would be doing as a FP if you so chose that route.

You must be talking about med schools in US.. ah-ha! I didnt give proper info and of course this misled you.. I am from Turkey and I dont have green card or something.. in Turkey to get in the worst med school you had to be (2 years ago) in first 9.000 of 1.700.000 university applicants.. and also get in a very very irrelevant entrance exam path.. takes a much higher time to prepare and at the end wont give me something deserves this.. forget it!.. as for US med schools, I dont think that as a non-US citizen and in this age I could find a seat in US med schools.. I was considering E-EU med schools.. or any other one "acceptable in quality".. if I get in this way, the quality is a very important factor for me.. to be called "MD" is not the point.. you must be really a good doctor at least, if not excellent..

You're right.. but it limits my future with US and a cople of European countries, which may be risky in future.. is it possible to work as PA in US? hmm.. I dont think so, again age question.. I dont know..

Don't let Age be a limiting factor. You continue doing what you love and want to do and you can't go wrong with that.
