    Looking for Adivce

    Advertisements

    Hello---

I have just applied to Palacky University, Karol Marcinkowski University of Poznan, Jagiellonian University, and American University of the Caribbean.

Really I am just looking for some advice on each of these schools (advantages/disadvantages).

I have chosen the schools in Europe because I am from Germany, and would like to be close to home. Also, when I finish my studies I plan to work in Germany, and therefore I think these schools would be most ideal (with Czech Republic and Poland soon to be joining the EU).

On the other hand, the cultural experience/climate in the caribbean is a little enticing (but a hell of a way from Germany).

I'm not sure if my thoughts are of any help, but I would greatly appreciate any advice to my query above.

    Tschuess

Afx60, I'm going to assume that you have a 4 year undergraduate degree and premed classes done, right? (Otherwise, you would not be applying to AUC.)

My opinion is that if you exlusively plan to practice in Europe in the future, the European option is most probably significantly cheaper.

Additionally, you should not have any problems having your European degree accepted, though I would check with the German authorities first before enrolling in a 4 year program, just to be sure.

Moreover, you should not have any problems doing electives, etc. in Germany while enrolled in the new European countries, as my experience is that German is still the lingua franca in many of the countries and there are many cultural ties as well.

I will not comment on the individual schools, except to tell you that AUC is an excellent path to a US residency if someone cannot get into a US school.

    Either way, Viel Glueck.

PS Why not Germany? Numerus clausus?

    4 year vs 6 year

    afx60,

before you apply to the 4 year program anywhere find out if germany accepts it. we have two students in Poznan now, but they are in the 6 year program. i know that norway will not validate a 4 year md degree, as one of my friends tried switching from 6 year to 4 year. so, first you might want to do a little more reading into the german md requirements.

auc has definite appeals, no doubt. if you plan of working in germany, why don't you just study there. not sure what the costs are, but at least you would learn all the medical terminology in german instead of english. also, you might not have to pay for anything if you are a german citizen (though don't quote me on that).

    good luck to you.

    Jagiellonian University

i love living in krakow. its been 2 years since i went back home to the states. anyway, about the CMUJ. the school is becoming progressive. i mean in the sense, everything isnt perfect, but people complain and things are being changed. every year, more and more people are passing their boards and more and more people are landing residencies. last years class had a few surgery and 1 got internalmed at GW in DC. this year, 1 girl already recieved John hopkins pre match. i dunno all the details about everyone, but things arent as bad as people make them out to be.
