Difference between U.S. Med school, AUA MD program, and Indian M.B.B.S

    Advertisements

I would like to know the difference in between US med school, AUA MD program and Indian M.B.B.S program.

Especially, apart from clinical rotations part in U.S., what is the advantage of AUA MD program over Indian M.B.B.S program?

Does Indian M.B.B.S graduates also have to take USMLE 1, 2, and 3 apart from ECFMG?

Can anybody provide me overview. I am confused.

Thank you, Tipton. You are so helpful. Just to make sure I understand,

All U.S. students and foreign medical students should take USMLE 1, 2, and 3.

In addition, foreign students must take ECFMG also.

    Am I right?

After USMLE 1, is clincial rotations part same as recidency?

    Differences?

But what advantages does US medical have over AUA/KMCIC and what advantages does AUA/KMCIC have over MBBS?

    Would really appreciate it.

Tipton: Hello, I am a high school senior in California, US...and I am interested in the KMCIC program...However, when i visit your website, i am quite confused because there are many programs which relate to this... can you please help me to find which one ir right for me..this is what I am looking for...I am looking for the one where you do 4 years at KMCIC at Manipal and then you go to the US or 15 weeks and do your Step 1 and then continue for the rest of the 75 weeks there while you do your step 2 and then follow that up with your residency...can you please let me know the name of this one...and if this is how it goes..

    Thank you so much...

If returning to California to practice medicine is a priority for you then AUA/KMCIC is not a good option yet. We are still going through the CA approval process. And until we have successfully completed this process our alumni are not able to complete Residency nor gain licensure in California.

An MBBS is essentially equivalent to that of a nurse practioner. It is only a masters/bacholers in medicine as indicated in the tittle. Graduates of an MBBS program have to take the steps. I would cation you if you want to go to an MBBS program because it doesn't perpare you for the steps. Many MBBS are working at AUA/KMCIC for several years to gain enough experience to take the USMLE steps. The individuals i know who have an MBBS spend years practicing before they take the steps. Many of these surgeons end up as primary care doctors in America.

With that said, it's sad to say an MBBS program would be better than going to AUA/KMCIC for the following reasons. KMCIC has been recommended for deaccrediation in India. This means, if the Indian government takes the proper action graduates of KMCIC will be ineligible to practice in India, and as a result ECFMG will not allow graduates to take the USMLE Steps. As for AUA, recent reports have came out that graduates of AUA are not allowed to practice in Antigua, which would make them inelidgable to take the USMLE Steps. In both cases, KMCIC & AUA, the respective governments have not taken any action as both schools are the biggest private schools where many of the students belong to well of families. Thus, these governments have been unwilling to take immediate actions as it would hurt their economy.

You want to go to a school that can prep you for step and MBBS is not the answer.
