sir as being admission counselor I am sure you are aware of the data of students who have passed their usmle step 1 exams..can you tell us,

    1. which campus kmcic vs AUA prepares students better for step 1 ?
    2. what is the total enrollment on each campus ?
    3. kmcic program started in 04/05--has anyone coming from here passed
    step 1 ?.
    4. what according to u is the most important advice that students should
follow to successfully get MD ( not studying hard but something that
u've learned or seen from the students who have passed step 1 and
    got MD ?

    Thanks

We have about 100 students who began in Manipal back in the US who have been promoted into our Clinical Curriculum including about 45 who are in the FP 1/IM 1 semester (5th Semester). I don't have a solid number of the students who have passed Step 1.

The most advanced students who began in Manipal are graduating in 2010 and are interviewing now for the Match.

Step 1 preparation seems to be about the same both in Antigua and Manipal. We use Shelf exams at both campuses. Both cohorts of students have their first chance to pass a Comp Shelf in thier final semester of Basic Sciences.

The two best items of advice for succeeding in medical school and gaining residency I have heard from current students are:

    1) Have a plan and stick to it. i.e. Know where you are going and plan your time and energy accordingly. Once you are into your first semester and have some good momentum, maybe look into some question-banks to get into your Step 1 style questions as soon as possible. Also once you hit clinicals begin studying for Step 2 and ask about your best opportunities for applying for residency.

    2) Have high expectations for yourself. Don't think that passing your classes and Step 1 is enough. Just getting by is not the type of graduate who is going to impress Program Directors in hospitals where you are applying for Residency.

This of course is all second-hand knowledge from current students.
