    Am I eligible?

    Advertisements

I was considering enrolling in the twinning program for March 2010. My science GPA is a little low, around 2.7 but I do have a very strong resume including hospital volunteering and several other extracurriculars as well as research experiments I designed and conducted completely on my own, and I will be submitting a draft soon to be published with my name being the second author on the publication! I have a pretty good chance of being published. I also have strong letters of recommendation.

That being said, I know that this program does not require the MCAT but I will be taking it in January for American medical schools so if I submit an application now for this program, it will not include my potentially high scores. Still, with the credentials that I will include if I submit an application NOW for March, how strong of a chance do I have? I recently called and talked to Tipton and he told me that luckily all of these things will be considered but I just want to know how much.

If you spoke to Tipton, he's given you the answers you needed. He's the main administrator from the school who posts to VMD (and he's an admissions coordinator at the school). Call/email him up again if you have further questions. Anyone else on here will just be speculation.

I didn't want to respond too quickly to seem like I'm babysitting here or something. But yeah, I am sill the best source of info for KMCIC applicants.

If you're cumulative GPA is higher than your science GPA I'd say you have a good shot at being accepted for the March 2010 semester at KMCIC.

my cumulative gpa is actually lower-- 2.458 which is why I brought up my other credentials. Either way, applying twice shouldn't be a problem, should it? (once before and once after I take the MCAT)

You won't need to apply again after you have your MCAT score. If you want to send it as an addendum to your application, this isn't a problem.

BTW - did you attend more than one college?

Your cumulative might come up a bit if the work at the other school is higher.

FYI - right now students with less than a 2.75 GPA coming into the school are not eligible for certification of their loans. Meaning you may be accepted and actually qualify for a loan. But AUA/KMCIC will not certify a loan for incoming students with less than a 2.75 incoming GPA.

Also, this loan info applies for Sept 2009 incoming students. Next year it may change.

I guess I will apply now for March admission and then later when I have my MCAT scores and hopefully a publication I'll send those in as well.
