    Jag vs Poznan?

    Advertisements

Hi I have been accepted to both schools.
I am planning to go back to US/Canada after.
Which school would be better and why?
    Thank you for your input.

If you are looking to come back and work in America/Canada, Poznan is the answer. I have good family fiends that have graduated and some who still attend both. During the 6 years at either school, Poznan students I know brag about how well the school prepares them for the USMLE. On the other hand, jag kids complained it wasn't enough, and were jealous after hearing what the Poznan kids said as to how they were prepared. Also, I'm not sure what krakow offers, but Poznan is affiliated with a couple of schools and hospitals in the states, therefore the school is well recognized here. Whenever my Poznan friends have come back to do their summer clinicals, they've never had a problem finding offers. Poznan accepts more students than 80, I believe, so there is more of a variety. From my jag friend, since 60 of the kids there are Scandinavian, he mentions how cliquey and hard to befriend they are. Also, not to mention that Poznan has the best pyzy in the world! Berlin is super close, and they always hold awesome concerts. My dad went there and I am applying in mid July. He wouldn't redo med school anywhere else, and I hope we will see each other there!

    Hi victoriawaskiel,
I keep hearing the same things about both schools so it is very hard to judge which one is better. It all depends who you ask. Some people are completely for one while other completely for the other. I have also been informed that coming back to North America after 2016 will become a challenge. After looking into it, I think both schools are equal when it comes to education, it just depends what city you would rather be in. I hope all goes well with your interview!

I am also looking at both schools, and was trying to find out to what extent either one utilzes the NBME shelf exams. I know that Poznan was using them in Biochem a while back, but I would appreciate getting an up to date response from current students. Many thanks in advance.

Anyone who can shed some light on the NBME status please? As far as I know, Jag offers NBME shelf exams for four subjects in the second year. Can someone confirm this or inform of any changes? Many thanks.

Between the two, I would pick Jag for location and program... although there is no question that Poznan can get you there. However, KEEP IN MIND that there are changes in the US Match slated for the coming few years, so things that worked in decades past may not be as successful after about 2016/2017. Read the articles from AAMC and ACGME about foreign medical graduates.

    Good luck.

Thanks devildoc, I have been keeping a real tight eye on those match trends -- with substantial anxiety to boot....! Regardless, appreciate the reminder very much.
