Hey, do you mind sharing your stats regarding the acceptance to jagellonian university? I am planning to apply there for Fall 2013. I have several gpa's because I attended the community college and currently in university. Here are my stats: Community college GPA: 3.30 University GPA: 3.80 Biology gpa (my major) 3.77 Sceince GPA :3.40 and overal (both community and university) 3.45 I also have done volunteering at the hiospital for one year and currently doing research. Planning to shadwo a physican this upcoming fall 2012. Now, the biggest issue is the MCAT. I did not do so well the first time so I will retake it January 2013 since Sept 2012 is the last available date to take it this year and I will not have neough time to prepare. Assuming I score the minimum (24) what do you think are my chance to get into jag university. I would really apprecaite your honest comments. Thanks

Residency placements for the class of 2012 have been posted on UJ's website. It doesn't look good, less than 60% found postgraduate training (2 of which were in Europe).

This is why you need to exhaust every option in the United States/Canada before coming here. The school provides an opportunity, but it doesn't spoon-feed anything to you. Your scores on the USMLE are your own effort (although NMBE exams are starting next year) and so is your residency placement.

Full-disclosure: I just finished my first year and haven't taken the USMLE or gone through the MATCH. The information i gave is from upper-years.

I don't know about you guys, but the placement stats look pretty impressive to me, especially ob/gyn, int. med and surgery at Switzerland (!) and 3 ppl being matched at Rochester.

I must admit, 10 ppl who didn't match is kinda scary... but could it be due to lower USMLE scores? applying to extra competitive specialties? getting nervous during the interviews?

Also, does anyone know how these stats compare to other schools (like Irish or Australian schools for example)?

The person who matched to Switzerland is almost certainly Swiss or Italian, it's not like Bob the Canadian got that post.

I know Ireland has extremely high success matching students. It sounds like greater than 90% get residencies. But they also get a very high caliber student there, mostly Canadians with awesome MCAT and GPA who can't get a place in Canada.

Australia is probably a little worse than Ireland, but mainly because there are WAY more spots for international students at Australian medical schools than there are at Irish medical schools.

Jagiellonian's 60% match rate is alarming because its supposedly the best medical school in Poland. If Jag matches 60% of graduates what does Poznan?

Also, I'd like to know the citizenship and USMLE scores of the students who didn't match.

I agree that Irish and Aussie schools may enjoy high reputations (which may translate to high match rates), but they also charge $30'000-80'000. Also as you say, these people usually have high MCATs/GPA to begin with).
UJ's 60% match may not look impressive, but consider that GPA/MCAT requirements for Polish schools tend to be lower than US/Canadian counterparts.
Plus their tuition is laughable compared to US/Irish/Aussie schools!

To me, Polish schools don't guarantee a residency. Instead they give a CHANCE (60% is good enough for me). In contrast US/Canadian med schools give me a 0% chance.

Also, not even Canadian/US med schools entitle you to get a residency of your choice (and these people have high GPA, MCATs, and mad extracurrics!).
FYI, about 50% of all Canadian med school grads end up in Family Med - and these people aren't stupid!

P.S., that 90% match rate for Irish students sounds impressive, but it sure sounds more like an opinion rather than a fact.

    Oh, and one more thing,
To CARMs (Canadian residency match service) ALL foreign grads (including foreign-trained MDs and CSA's [Canadians Studying Abroad]) are treated the same. They're are so afraid of mistreating anyone, that to favour Irish/Aussie students over everyone else would be a discrimination! As far as I know, what really matters is:
    1) USMLEs/MCCEE scores
    2) Med school GPA
    3) Good LORs (preferably from US/Canadian MDs)
    4) Submitting all papers on time, and NOT aiming for Neurosurgery, Ophtalmology, Dermatology (etc) at Mayo Clinic or McGill/UofT
    5) Nailing the interviews
... and NOT necessarily whether you graduated from from Poland or Ireland or Australia for that matter.
However, having a school that can arrange North American electives (for those LORs) without too much hassle also helps.

I'm going to reply to this thread quickly because I have stuff to do. The level of misinformation on this thread is high though, and it is funny to me. This was discussed previously in other threads, but apparently no one takes the time to read them. For the Class of 2012
    19/28 went through a Match
    3/6 matched in Canada
    3 Matched in First Round
    3 going through Second Round

    2 matched in UK
1 also accepted to USA and going there

    11/14 matched in the US
    3 accepted PreMatch
    8 matched first round
3 participated in the Scramble, 0 successful (very limited spots)
2 going through Canadian Second Round

4 people are voluntarily taking time off
5 Staying in Europe to residencies in Poland, Switzerland, Sweden, etc

As you can see it is not a 60% match rate, it is much higher 79% for USA. The schools people matched at are also very good.
