General Information On Jagiellonski and Krakow along with the 6 Year Program

    Advertisements

    Hey Guys,

I was wondering if some people could give me some input on the school and how it compares to Poznan. Apparently both schools are very reputable however CM UJ is more respected.

Do you guys think i should apply to CMUJ over PUMS? What are the advantages/ Disadvantages?

Is the program similar to the one in Poznan Beginning in October, 2 week break in December and finishing in June?

Does anyone have pictures of the school? Dorms? and anything else that would benefit me?

How Much do some of you pay for rent? How far is it from the school?

What are the conditions of the dorms? How many people per kitchen/washroom/room? I heard that they are quite bad in Krakow :P...

Do you guys have spare time to bike? ski? ect... once in a while

Also how much should I expect to pay monthly on everything food, living, phone whatever it is. Just an approximate value/range works.

I've applied to Poznan already, however am trying to decide whether i should continue to apply to Krakow.

    Thanks

I think PUMS is too crowded with 1008 foreign students this year, comparing to 200 students of Jagiellonian(if I dont misremember), which is better for a more quality education. Once I have made a comparison in one of the threads, but I dont remember where. If you make an advanced search with the search words both Jagiellonian and Poznan, or PUMS, for recent months, you can find it I think. Still the best way is to get in the details of the official websites of the schools and make a personal report.

I find Jag better than Poznan. Should you continue to apply to Jagiellonian/Krakow?, yes it sounds wise. You dont lose, but may win something much better.

smaller class size = more competitive selection. school is more widely known and has a better rep. affiliations with schools such as UCLA, URoch, UPenn and Cleveland Clinic to name a few. we scored higher on USMLEs therefore we kept our loan status.

nicer city but that also means more tourists, esp in warm months. a lot of flights go from krakow to other european cities so travel within europe is not only convenient but relatively inexpensive. i could go on and on.....

No, the school year starts end of august/early september like North American schools. 3 weeks off for christmas and random breaks here and there. finishes late june.

EDIT: sorry if you are applying for the 6 year program then the year starts early october.

How Much do some of you pay for rent? How far is it from the school?

The dorms this year are further away than they used to be since the switch this summer, however i think the price is still the same. around 1200zl/month. a lot of people get apartments near the medical campus and you can expect to pay anywhere from 1500-2500/mo depending on the size, type of heating etc.

What are the conditions of the dorms? How many people per kitchen/washroom/room? I heard that they are quite bad in Krakow :P...

the dorms this year are brand new and are really nice from what the first years have told me. i don't know any details but they are sure to be an improvement over the old ones.

Do you guys have spare time to bike? ski? ect... once in a while

yes, this is what weekends are for haha. Zakopane and the Tatry mountains are about 2 hours away with buses going about every 10 or 15 min from the central bus station. an extra hour will get you on the Slovak side where there is a nice ski resort.

Also how much should I expect to pay monthly on everything food, living, phone whatever it is. Just an approximate value/range works.

IMO you should budget AT LEAST 1000zl per month to pay for your other expenses. this would be a bare minimum.

    Thanks Guys,

CMUJ was my first choice last year... unfortunately i didn't score 72+%, so i decided to take a year in a Canadian university and try again. I guess i will send my application out to Jagiellonski, study hard and hope for the best .

Another question... approximately how much would books for the 1st year cost... used (providing they dont change the edition every year like they do here in canada) or new.

Hey guys.... I had yet another question to ask... I have been accepted to PUMS and will be paying the deposit...but a 1000$ prestudy course and 500$ dorm deposit is due June 30th too.... -_-
I remember that the results weren't out until July last year... if there anyway to defer the payment. lol it would suck to loose a total of 2500$ if i did get accepted into jagiellonski. :P

    Thanks
