How to get accepted into Jag

    Advertisements

So I've had a massive change of heart of the over the past few weeks and am making it my goal to go to a 6 year medical school in Poland. I was previously "gaining experience" in the corporate world but realized that my heart was in the wrong place this whole time. I hope some of you will help me get answers to a few questions that I cannot find online at the moment. First off, How hard is the entrance exam? I ask because I'm 28 and haven't taken chemistry/biology in over 10 years. Is it possible to find tutors that will help to prepare for entrance exams in Krakow? The US FAFSA website states that you are able to collect US Federal funding while attending Jag. Have any of you had experience with this? If so, do MAP/PELL grants apply if you're attending the 6 year program or is the 6 year program considered graduate school?

    Duzzy hi,

You know what, there are similar and successful other non-traditional students as well, like you ..and I am a non-trad as well who may be a prospective, though I cant see the future.. just like you, we were disconnected with our past secondary school curricula and lost all what we learned (actually I must talk in the name of myself ) .. personally, I went to a bookstore, bought chemistry and biology books, and spent my available times with studying on them.. now I am even better than my high school level.. and to take those exams are really not the matter and whats more you have time, the whole year, to study and prepare yourself for the exam, and this time is more than you need to me.. the schools in this region is not hard to get in, but some are hard to get out Oh by the way, if you are focused on Jagiellonian, its entrance exam is only about chem and bio..

This is the school's info page:
    </title> <style type="text/css"> .auto-style2 { border-width: 0px; } .auto-style3 { text-align: center; } </style> </head> <body bgcolor="#C0C0C0" text="#FFFFFF" link="#FFFFFF" vlink="#FFFFFF" topmargin="0" leftmargin="0" rightmargin="0" bottommargin

From the website above I picked some relevant links for you:

This is the list of this year's admitted 4-year program candidates, as you get down of the list it tells how actually its possible to get in the school :
    http://www.medschool.cm-uj.krakow.pl...ing4MD2011.pdf

This is the list of the 6-year graduates, you can directly contact with them and have the impressions of the graduates about their school directly:
    http://www.medschool.cm-uj.krakow.pl...-mail_list.pdf

And this is the list of the 4-year graduates:
    http://www.medschool.cm-uj.krakow.pl...ces2011MD4.pdf

This is a sample biology test from the school's web site, to give an idea:
    http://www.medschool.cm-uj.krakow.pl...iology2008.pdf

And this is a sample chemistry test, agani from the official web site:
    http://www.medschool.cm-uj.krakow.pl..._questions.pdf

And if you consider to take a look at other schools in the region, I have had a little reasearch about some of them and this is the summary of them:
    Medical Schools
(in the next page of the blog, there are two more Hungarian schools)

Hope this helps I wish you a biiiig good luck man

Oh by the way, if you have a high GPA and another European language, you may have better options in West European or Scandinavian med schools (and near to free!), though Jagiellonian is one of the bests in its own pool..

I'm afraid that the Scandinavian medical schools are almost certainly out of the question. They are considered to be excellent, yes, but they do not have enough seats for their own citizens who wish to study medicine (see the large numbers of Swedish and Norwegian students in Poland, Czech Republic, etc.), and foreigners are not likely to get a seat. However, there are other EU countries where foreign students can gain admission if they speak the language of instruction.

Yes, as DD says, practically its next to impossible. I have looked around for sometime, even directly got in contact with some of them, and yes, they are, Finnish or Norwegian (Swedeish ones must be the same as well) officially open for foreign students, as long as you provide the requirements: their language, high GPA and if I dont misremember, for Finland there was a test? as well. But practically its nearly impossible for its too hard, demand/supply question. How far its the same for W-EU schools I cant make a comparison, but the same or similar goes for them as well, they are very hard too. I dropped that note just for the info of OP, just not to make the judgement myself in the name of the OP and keep those options out of the attention of him/her.
