    Rotations

    Advertisements

So, I am given to understand that we are able to do our 4th year rotations and Surgery (in the 3rd year) abroad.

I need help figuring out the third year schedule.

Since none of the numbers are above 31 and none of the roman numerals are above 12, I'm assuming they stand for date and month respectively

    For surgery, it has:

    2-6 I
    9-13 I
    16-20 I
    23-27 I
    30-3 II
    6-10 II
    13-17 II
    20-24 II

    Implying Jan/Feb?

Anesthesiology also appears to be scheduled for the afternoons during this time, so how are we to cover that if we do surgery abroad? Unless, we spend the summer doing this, in which case, how do we take care of the exam?

    Second q:

Is there a limit to the number of rotations one can do abroad in the fourth year? Are the electives limited to what they list on the page for the 4th year schedule?

    Cheers!

I asked the school office a couple months ago about surgery and what they said was:

If you decide to apply for Surgery please remember that you also have to complete part of Anesthesiology at that Hospital or in October/November with 6th year students.

So if you did core surgery in the US and you didnt manage to do anesthesia as well, you would have to return to krakow for october and november to do it here, which would mean you couldn't do any more 4th year rotations abroad.

Rotations abroad are usually limited by State regulations, I don't believe the school itself sets any restrictions. However after the Residency Match application closes, there is really no point in doing any more rotations abroad as they wouldn't put you in any better position.

You haven't even started first year yet....relax a bit.

yes, all US schools want to see your Step 1 score for your rotations. Canadians and other countries could care less...

That talk yesterday was pretty useful. Hopefully I'll remember some of it when the time comes
