    Pre Courses in High School

    Advertisements

Hi, I'm only going into freshman year of high school, but I would really like to study medicine in the future. CM UJ would be a top choice for me, as I have dual citizenship (for poland) and I know Krakow really well (I go there every year)

Anyway, back to my questions. I've read that for the 6 year courses for medicine, you need to complete Biology and Chemistry courses.

I have an honors Biology course (2 semesters) during my freshman year, and an honors Chemistry (also 2 semesters) in my sophomore year.

Are these two classes enough for meet the requirements for Polish Medical School? Particularly UJ?

If so, what grades should I shoot for? I don't know how much harder high school is than middle school, I thought it was really easy and I finished with straight As all three years, and I did extremely well in science. I've already ordered extra books for Biology

So anyway the main question: are 2 semester freshman biology and 2 semester sophomore chemistry (all in high school) enough to qualify for UJ?

    Thanks,

    Kamil

your grades don't mean anything. pass the entrance exam that only 20 out of 80 something people passed/were accepted and then worry about your grades good luck. best to start now since you will only be a high school freshman.

    Hi,

    I'm talking about this requirement:

MD Program for High School graduates

Persons eligible for admission at the studies are the holders of:
    1) a document confirming knowledge of English language, provided that secondary education was conducted in language other than English,
    2) a high school-leaving examination certificate or diploma of secondary education, which entitles its holder to be considered for admission to medical or dental (MD or DDS) programs in the state it was obtained in,

    3) biology and chemistry courses completed during secondary and/or supplementary education and confirmed by a certificate including grade, or by entry in diploma of secondary education,
who will sit for the entrance examination conducted in English.

Will 2 semester courses of each meet the requirements?

Yes, it is enough to meet the "requirements". But like I said, they do not really care about your grades. I mean, of course you should pass and have a high GPA but to get accepted you need to pass the entrance exam with a high score. Freshman bio and soph. chem(honors) will be of great help to you to learn the BASICS. However, (my guess is you are coming from US since you mentioned honors high school level courses?) make sure you take advanced placement as early as your school allows it. The more challenging material is on the exam (from what I have seen with that sample test they put up on their website this year) I wanted to take the entrance exam but I graduated high school this year with only A/P Bio on my record and when I saw the chem sample tests I did not even know how to attempt some of the questions. It is college level stuff but since you are only a freshman and very ambitious you better know your chemistry before taking that exam I knew most of the material for biology since A/P covered EVERYTHING. I wish my school district would allow me to take CHEM A/P, but they didn't It was hard to teach myself while I was a high school senior GOOD LUCK and STUDY NOW and if you work hard for the next four years in high schoool and focus on chem and bio you should have it EXTREMELY EASY.

Thanks, If all goes well, this is how my classes can go down:

Biology Acc. -----> Chemistry Acc. -------> Physics Acc and AP Biology ------> Choice of AP Physics OR AP Chemistry
    Freshman . . . . . . Sophomore . . . . . . . . .. . .Junior . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Senior . . . . . . . . . . .

    Or, less stressful

Biology Acc. -----> Chemistry Acc. -------> Physics Acc. ------> AP Biology
    Freshman . . . . . . Sophomore . . . . . . .. . .Junior . . . . . . . . . .Senior . .

The first Possibility seems really scary...

I have had self-study with Brown-LeMay-Bursten's Chemistry (and additionally Wilson's Solutions to Exercises as well), and John McMurry's Organic Chemistry.. and I was able to answer the questions in MCAT exercise booklets.. the questions in Jagiellonian's website didnt look that different..

Yea the first possibility seems scary but it will really help you in the end. Wait until senior year you have a long road ahead of you still. First see how you handle the honors then you can think about possibility number 1. I took the easy way out,(I had no other choice, like I said my district does not allow it) and it did not really help me in the end since I had only an advanced level in biology. That's not enough for UJCM, obviously.

By the way, it's good to know your this ambitious at such an early age. After graduating eight grade college seemed like a lifetime away for me and I did not even care about anything but time flies so don't waste it if you know what you want already! Best to start early

    Are you in medical school?

I would definitely love going to medical school, I've always dreamed of being a doctor. Plus, I've got a lot to live up for, all of my family (cousins) are currently studying high things - 2 at CMUJ, 4 in architecture, and 6 studying IT - I'd loved to join the two at UJ.

I know it's hard to get into Medical School, and that it's going to take alot of work, so I'm starting early off.

    But it'll definitely be rewarding.

I'm going to be a first year student at Poznan even though I wanted to really study in Krakow but it did not work out. Start early, you will not be disappointed. I do not come from an educated family but I am 100% polish and visit Poland every year Hopefully I will be a first generation college graduate and it would be even better if I end up a doctor.

My dad originally went into medicine in Lublin, but was 2 points short on the entrance exam, started a year course in a hospital which would let him in, but then left when he became blood faint, and finished 6 years of engineering. I am also 100% polish, and i go there every year also All of my family lives an hour away from Krakow which would be nice, and my whole family is studying in Krakow. I would absolutely love to get into medical school.

I'm really just nervous about high school. Middle School went amazingly for me, I finished all 3 years with straight As. I did really well in general science, and I just wonder how hard biology will be compared to that.
