Applying for September 2011! (6year MD programme)

    Advertisements

    Hi guys,

I am thinkning of applying to Jagiellonian university for this september. (who else is applying!)

I have few questions about the Admission.

Firstly, how important is the motivation letter? From the posts I read, it seems as though the university only looks into the entrance exam rather than your grades at high school etc. And if the motivation letter is important what would you recommend writing in it?

Secondly I was wondering if you could take the exam at poland twice? rather than once.
and if you could do so do they take account the best one out of two? Also would the earlier exam be better than the later one in terms of getting in?

Thirdly when do the acceptance letter come out after the exam? weeks? months?

Lastly, is the 6 MD programme a good choice when thinking of going to US hospital? providing that I can't go to US or Aus(I got into sydney and UWA but too expensive..)

I would be very much appreciated for a decent answer.

Hey, I'm applying as well, nice to meet you
No one is really 100% sure on what the admissions team actually look at but I think the motivation letter isn't a huge deciding factor. The exam is the "be all and all" becasue its the only way to judge individuals since we are all coming from different education systems. As for the letter, you could talk about your inspirations, passion for science, how you like to care for people etc.

I doubt you could you sit the exam twice but don't take my word for it. Give Jag U an email and ask, I've found the people there quite efficent and friendly.

I'm going to guess at around a month but try searching the forums because I'm sure I have saw your third question asked somewhere else.

If you can't get afford your other options by all means go to Poland but the general consenus is that if yuo want to return the US you are going to have to wok your butt off and ace the boards, make connections on your electives and all that jazz. But I would reccomend trying your hardest to attend school in the US, look into financial aid at least for your undergrad.
Just out of interest, did you get into the Sydney U Science undergrad bc as far as I know they have scrapped there 6 year medicine program and opted for a 4 year MD program.

    Hope I helped.

i am also applying for the 6 year MD for october 2011 nice to meet you! Like Ryan01 mentioned, the exam is the ultimate deciding factor and I am not sure either, but i don't think you could take the exam twice, since it would not be fair to other candidates, but you should verify with Jagiellonian U.

i also have applied for my 6 yr MD at jag med school.they sent me exam preparation materials 3 weeks ago,but the material is very hard for high school graduates.the guides they sent were easy to cope with but the questions(tests) were damn hard.majority of the questions(topics) you couldnt find in the guide books. As i have done my A levels i thought the exam wouldnt be too hard, guess what i was wrong for sure when i practiced the tests.I havent studied some topics in my A level syllabus which keeps me wondering what in Gods name am i gong to do on the test day..

I am sure those are the past papers(tests),and i wanna know how did the older students managed to pass them.

And anyone sharing their preparation secrets will be appreciated. As i am appearing on may 19,i want some quick grasp on the ideas and preparation methods.

    reply in haste.

There are only a few kids in this years class who applied and got in right after high school. Prep secret? ummmm study. If you think the material is hard than wait till you actually start in september. I dont recommend it for those straight out of hs. You need to aim to get about a 75 out of 90 (of course this is a variable that changes every year). Good luck!

woW you guys r quick in replying.Well i am trying my best to solve my problems regarding chemistry and bio past test papers with the help of some advanced library books and internet(of course). but chemistry questions are hard as hell!!,i mean some questions i showed to my former teacher he was like what?:P.he told me those questions are posed in BSC or MSC sections. And guess what some answers in biology questions are either wrong or wrongly printed.for example:
IN which cell cycle stage does doubling of DNA occur?
ANS: according to test A the answer is G2 but according to test F it is G1(similar questions in both tests)

    In chemistry

CCl4 is considered polar. which is of course hilarious.

But lets face it guys no one is perfect, mistakes happen everywhere no matter what country, but my point is not to deeply criticize them rather than make our selves prepared for whats coming ahead of us. we all know questions given are hard but my teacher advised me to prepare it by with the help of internet and some books(library).

Hope to meet you soon in sep/oct session in krakow and gud luCk 4 da TeSt.

Ha ha yes i noticed that as well. Some of the concepts in the study guides are also incorrect but like you said the best thing you can do is prepare ! I think that the reason they make the exam so difficult for high school students is to be able to quickly identify the best candidates. I suppose they could have made the test at a grade 12 level, but then chances are that more people would have the same score on the exam. Anyways, it doesn't really matter why they do it :P

I am starting to think that it is best to apply to the 6 year programs with at least an associates degree such as coming from a community college or at least sophmore year at a university. So really, it will be 8 years in total if you are from the US, but instead it would be 2 years at a normal college then 6 there instead of the 4 undergrad then 4 med. Myszka I agree with you, schools like JAG look for extremely gifted and intelligent students that are way smarter than average high school graduates, especially those who are coming out of North America. I mean, being from the US, I am not afraid to say that the US. has one of the lowest education systems I have seen, although we have universities such as the Ivy League schools that rank the best in the world. Our high school and younger grades eduaction systems' are just too low. The classes that they offer to us at high schools are a big joke. We have general classes where you just take 10 question vocab quizzes and lazy morons still FAIL such classes. I just do not get it. Our president is complaining that students have low test scores, yet the education department is not doing anything to get rid of courses that are JOKES. I am getting carried away here, but I am just extremely angry that I do not posses higher knowledge of math and science, compared to the rest of the world. Good luck to everyone on the exam, I have faith in you because just the fact that you are all applying to such a school shows that you are all determined and not lazy and dumb like 99.9% of the population. Sorry for the exaggerations and anger expressed in my post, I just wish I had the brains to get into JAG straight out of high school. Take care everyone and good luck on your entrance exams which are only a few weeks away!
