    Summer Clerkships In Europe

    Advertisements

My question is for all the medical Students studying in English in Europe. What you guys do during summer except going back home. Are there any summer clerkships or research opportunities in Europe like in Germany, Netherlands etc. If yes, can you please tell me about some of those opportunities?

Absolutely, there are tons of opportunities in Europe... but of course some of them may not be available in English. Many of them are, however, because they want to bring in students from all over the EU.

However, remember that these may be of limited value if you want to return to the States for residency, because you need USCE in order to qualify for more and more programs.

There are a number of research programs, student workshops, and other opportunities. I have seen them advertised in Holland, Sweden, Germany, UK, and Bulgaria... I'm sure they can be found almost anywhere. In this case, Google is your friend. If nothing pops up, which would surprise me, then you can visit the websites of institutions you would like to visit, and see what they have listed.

    Good luck.

At Jagiellonian, students are required to complete a one-month summer clerkship in a hospital, in a specialty of their choosing after first year. This can be completed in North America or in Europe (the school will help set one up for you in Poland if you choose to stay over the summer - all other countries have to be set up on your own). This is only required after the first year as after 2nd year students typically write the USMLE Step 1 exam.

As far as research goes, the opportunities are there and a few people I know are involved with one-on-one research with professors here in Krakow during the school year. You won't be handed anything though, so it's up to you to ask professors if they are doing research on the side and if you could help them.

    Hope that helps.
