JAG vs Lublin - Residency Placement

    Advertisements

    Hello Everyone,

I am considering applying to both JAG and Lublin for Fall 2010 admission and I have scorched the forums trying to figure out this answer but have not been able to figure this out.

I would really appreciate if current students/graduates from JAG/Lublin could kindly talk about the residency placement of the graduates. I understand JAG has an elite reputation in medical studies but does not have official clinical rotations available in the United States unlike Lublin. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Also, does not doing clinical rotations in United States put you at an obvious disadvantage in obtaining competitive residency placements ? Is it possible to do all your clinical rotations in the US if you are a student at JAG considering there is no support system like Lublin has in HOPE Medical Institute (HMI) ?

Which school definitely has a clear advantage overall for US citizens and why?
And finally, considering both these schools have an English Medical program division, which program has a better reputation in USA ? A thoughtful and clear response would be highly appreciated.

    Thank You

Poznan, Warsaw and Jagiellonain let you do something like 3 or 4 months elsewhere, which you are responsible for setting up. Lublin ... I don't know anything about. It's up to you to decide if the price they charge is worth the extra time you'd spend in the U.S. But if you're spending that amount, you may as well spend a bit more and go to one of the Big 4 where USMLE training is more emphasized.

I don't think any school has a definite clear advantage for U.S. students. An IMG is an IMG, it's your scores and LOR that will matter and there are good graduates from all of these schools.

So you don't think the curriculum at the English speaking programs at these polish med schools are geared toward USMLE preparation as well as carribean schools ? Which polish medical school would be the closest in your view to help prepare their students the best to take the USMLE boards ?

You will get all of the information that you need for the USMLE at a good E-Eu school (no, wait, let me amend that - you will get MORE information, ad nauseam, than you need for the USMLE)... but it will not likely be tailored for the USMLE, since they are catering to students who will practice all over the place, and not just in the States.

Jag has a very competitive match rate in the US, they are obviously doing something right. I chose Europe over the Carib for my own reasons, but I think that either route has its benefits and its drawbacks.

I'll mention some gladly, this year from the 4th year class: one person into neurosurgery, a few internal meds at good places, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, general surgery, psychiatry.
Yes we have official clinical rotations set-up in Cali at UCLA, UCI, UCSD, Loma Linda, and a lot of people go to U Rochester for a few months. Yes, you have to set it up the school won't do it all for you. You need to plan it and show the initiative. But most 4th years do from about July-Feb in the U.S.

Thanks bigndude...the clinical rotations which are set up thru JAG are only for the core rotations or the electives as well ? we have to find the clinicql spots ourselves or they have the relationships established, we just have to call n set it up ? Also, how difficult is it to to set the rotations yourself ? Does it take lot of time n energy away from ur studies n do some students get their graduations delayed if they don't find one on time ? Please explain !
