Is Israel really that difficult to get in to?

    Advertisements

    Shalom,

I am a Canadian student with interest to go and study in Israel for many reasons - familial (95% of my family lives there), cultural, spiritual, and most importantly... educational. From what i've heard, the schools in Israel are of the highest standard, the english-language instruction programs are extremely competitive, and difficult to get admittance to.

Is it really as difficult and intensely competitive as it has been made to seem to me? Are some of the schools (i.e. the one via NYU) more difficult to gain entrance too? Is the knowledge of hebrew helpful in admissions, or is that not really important? What kind of MCAT scores and GPA's do people get in with? Is it more interview/character based, or is it purely up to marks?

I appreciate that these threads have been done before, but my dream is really to go to Israel and obtain my M.D. My marks are average, I don't have a long list of volunteer and extra-curricular work, and I haven't wrote the MCAT yet.

Please, inform me as to the whole situation with Israeli English-instruction Medical Schools.

American MD programs in Israel are getting more competitive each year. The programs here are more competitive than many programs in the US, and less competitive than others. The average MCAT scores for admitted applicants is hovering around 30. If you have a score of 28 or less, it would be wise to have an impressive GPA. If you have a poor GPA, it is only to your advantage to score above a 32 on your MCAT. There are people with worse scores that were "lucky" and gained acceptance. I would not bank on getting a lucky acceptance.

One thing is for sure- it doesn't hurt to apply seeing as the application is for this coming year as opposed to the usual application for the next coming year.
    Good luck

I'm also Canadian, and if I was you (jewish, no israeli citizenship) I would definately apply to Israeli med-schools, it's obviously easier to get into because you pay alot more then regular israeli students, but you will get alot out of it. As for Canada - even if you study in the U.S. they won't give you a licence, and it will be extremely hard to get residency...so screw Canada...work in the U.S. after.

Definitely recognized by WHO and IMED and since GMC recognizes all IMED schools except a few offshore schools it is recognized. It isn't regulated by the GMC though.

Israel is for those who are really hard working and know what to do in the near future. Israel is considered as one of the best medicine countries, so you should be the best of the best to enter any medical college there.
