IUHS current student review--completed 7 months at IUHS

I am a current IUHS student offering an honest review of the school after completing 7 months. I will keep this short, but feel free to ask any questions. For the most part, the school has been impressive. I was shocked to see that the professors teaching the courses are actually teaching the same courses at US Med Schools. The material is fast paced, but doable while working. Be prepared to study like crazy, there have already been people that I started with that are not in the program anymore. Don't think this is going to be a cakewalk, you need to study.

The school will qualify you to take Step 1, but with any FMS you will need to kill Step 1 to get a descent residency. With that being said, plan on taking a review course prior to the test (i.e. Kaplan, USMLE Success Academy).

IUHS is not for everyone, but if you're self-motivated and a hard worker then it could be a great fit for you.

"Entirely online" is highly inaccurate and factually incorrect. Only the basic sciences is "online". You still attend live lectures but online. Again, only the basic sciences portion is online.

As far as licensing is concerned, any state that uses the CA list for licensing will rule you out unless you go to the top 5. In addition, IN also will not license you. However, that still leaves you with a lot of states. Bottomline, IUHS is no joke, it is a medical school that caters to established health professionals wanting to change careers, so it is probably not for everyone.

Come 2023, all offshore medical schools will have problems so it will be interesting to see what happens to all these schools that cater to US students.

If you are already a health professional and a self-directed learner with the will to succeed then IUHS may be for you. The rest, especially those fresh out of undergrad might want to tread carefully and chose wisely!

People on these forums seem to keep bashing all schools, some more than others - nothing is achieved by this other than discussion for discussion sake. Take the info from these with a grain of salt, do your own research and decide.

    Good luck to everyone.

    IUHS adminstration

It is fair to say that you can never find an online med school like IUHS. Sometimes people from administration could be pain. There are matters you have to deal with admins and they are so unprofessional especially during two years of basic science. Sometimes, it takes at least 2 to 3 weeks to get back to you with help. Sometimes they won't even fix their side of problem and ignore you. However, most people have to put up with it because no med school offers online.

    Hi there
I live in Australia and I'm weighing up the choice of doing online med courses at either OUM (Oceania university of medicine) or IUHS. Does anyone know which is "better"?
Also does IUHS assist in placements for rotations? I believe OUM assist US students but Australian student?
    Hope you can help🌟

I don't know about IUHS's clinical placement but I do know OUM has more students from Australia so they may be more established in your region. They are both online so the licensing issues in the US apply to both equally. Which one is better? I can't help you there as I have never attended either of these schools.

I'd suggest you talk to your fellow Australian students who may be attending OUM and get some more specific feedback about that school.

OUM had some problems with the Samoan government and is no longer considered a Samoan based school. They are now a purely online school very much like IUHS. I don't know the specifics about OUM and their difficulties with the local government. You can research this online as there are several published articles about this in the local Samoan papers.

Given that OUM is no longer a Samoan based school, you should contact the licensing authorities in your state to see if you are still able to get the OUM degree recognized in Australia.
