Interested in IUHS - Feel free to contact me, M2 student - kimberlyj@iuhs.edu

I am an IUHS finishing my second year and getting prepared for Step 1. This program has been amazing as I would have not been able to go to medical school any other way. I am in the Midwest, but there are students all over the US in residency and in practice. I also just completed a dual MBA/MPA to give me flexibility in practicing or to have a leadership role in medicine.

I am happy to discuss my journery, goals and inspiration for pursuing medicine and specifically pursuing medicine at IUHS.

    I am applying

    Hello Kimberly:

I am happy to read something current and positive about the school. And I do respect them for boldly taking the lead in building an efficient global medical education infrastructure. Indeed digital learning is a real learning paradigm shift that many people are not ready to accept. But the core curriculum of many advanced degree programs are exploiting every opportunity to make education more affordable and convenient for maturer learners without compromising quality. It is great! I am elated!

I am a Correctional Mental Health Nurse Coordinator [Georgia Correctional Healthcare/Georgia Regents University/Medical College of Georgia], the mother of three awesome kids, and the wife of a Vietnam Vet. I have been a nurse for quite a long time.

I would love the opportunity to speak with you. Please email me [couldn't leave my email: not enough posts yet; will email you]...so I can tell you more about myself and my aspirations to become a psychiatrist.

    Kindest Regards,
    JB

I have not posted in a while. A few private messages to me making inquiry about my progress has prompted me to post an update. I am halfway through the third year. I finished my clinical rotations in Psychiatry, Surgery and Pediatrics. I start OB/Gyn on Monday of next week for six weeks followed by Internal Medicine for 12 weeks and then Family Medicine for six weeks. That will finish my third year. Of my 32 weeks of electives for the fourth year I have completed some so I expect to graduate thereafter when the rest are completed. Sometime after finishing Family Medicine (around mid July 2018) I will focus on taking and passing the two parts of USMLE Step 2. My clinical rotations have mostly been in metro Atlanta, GA. Some of my fellow students are from other Caribbean medical schools and some from U.S. D.O. or M.D. schools. You get out of the clinical rotations what you put into them. Some of the students do the minimum to get by and others like me jump in with both feet and soak up knowledge and experience. If anyone wants further info please send me a P.M. I'll try to respond promptly. Ed

Once in rotations, do people are asking you which med school you are from? Do they ask questions about the curriculum, etc?

Hey there, I'm a first year student at IUHS and I'll try to shed a little light for you.

So, in your first and second years (pre-clerkships), you're required to do so much shadowing time every block with a physician mentor who you have developed some sort of relationship with ahead of time. During this time, you'll likely have a good deal of contact with other med students from traditional brick-and-mortar institutions, and I have fielded a fair number of questions about our program. Honestly, most students are very intrigued about the program itself and the ability to proceed through the program whilst still maintaining employment, as most of us do. But all in all, the relationships I've had with other students in the clinical environment has been completely friendly and professional.

    Cheers!

Hi, I'm also enrolled at IUHS but I have some questions which have been bothering me for a while now. Can IUHS graduates actually get residency spots in the US and actually practice there?
Also, I heard from someone on this forum that very soon IUHS students will no longer be allowed to even take clinical rotations in the US not practice there. Are these claims true?
