Compehensive Review from a current IAU student and why you should BEWARE

    Advertisements

Honestly, Couldn't think of any positive side.

Dramas, Dramas every day, from the front office lady to the office Manager Sibil, dramas between students every single day, (most of them 70% straight from African, 20% Indian, 5% everywhere else.) and most hilarious part is: a lot of time, the faculties join the drama , not only take part and take side and fight each other. No one really care about Academic. You see actual fights in the classroom here, it is crazy, school in Somalia is better than this. Safty is a big concern, (One of the more senior student was killed just recently killed during a fight, the good thing is it is not on campus. It is also on the news.)

Really sucks have to worry about your safety in Medical School.

Got my acceptance let without even turning any transcripts, the name on the acceptance letter didn't even spelled fight. Tells you how worthless it is.

Welcome the "University" in a Mall, it's not in a whole mall, because it doesn't have money, it is only top floor of the mall pretend to be an "University", Previously I though only barber University can be in a Mall, didn't know some Indian try to put school here and call it an University, Oh well, only India Indians ...

We had like one Cadaver, for entire semester and Students just standing around, the faculty cut most of the organs and the student try to identify weather it is a liver or a spleen. There are only one faculty by the way.

I got my acceptance letter without even I send any Transcripts, (Official or Unofficial), and my name was spelled wrong on the letter. (I still have a copy of the letter, if ), just proved how worthless it is.

The student body we had is about 30 students in the beginning, immediately after the school start it drop to 25, (Perhaps due to school's policy that if you drop 1st week you get 80% of the tuition back, people probably see the "University", just a third floor on a mall, they probably decided it is they have seen enough, they don't want to

If you did your homework like me ... you were probably wondering, you can't never find a school's photo or a classroom photo anywhere on the web? (Anywhere Anywhere) Perhaps it's because school's official Scare if they post them online students may decided never show up.

Same for the quality of some of the faculties, to say it is a joke it's over statement

Hey Mark, hows it going? Just going to go out on a limb and say its you.

I am a current 3rd semester, so I have been here for around 9 months. In those 9 months, there have been no fights inside classrooms, and no, no one has been killed here.

I doubt you got accepted without a transcript, since they waited until they got my official transcript in before accepting me. As far as their spelling goes, maybe your grammar or language skills aren't up to par, and you just think they spelt it wrong? Just saying, based on your barely legible and coherent post.

As far as my entering class, we entered with just under 40 students, now we have under 30, so yes, we have lost a few students along the way, but welcome to medical school, not everyone is cut out for it. You're right about the anatomy lab, there is one full cadaver for each first semester to work with, but there are also countless parts that follow along with the course, so everyone can work on what is relevant if they step up to do the cutting.

As far as the quality of the faculty members goes, they can only teach you so much, the rest you have to learn on your own. However, when we compare our NBME scores to students in the states, we know we are getting an education at least on par with stateside medical students. I would even say some of our profs are excellent, some average and one or two that are less than satisfactory. But this is the Caribbean, and if you're expecting to be spoon fed, don't waste your money.

So, my name is Andrew Johnson, I am a 3rd semester here at IAU and am very well informed. If anyone wants to set me straight, feel free to try. Call me, my island number here is 758-715-4924, my email address is [email protected] .

Doesn't matter what happens to you this is what happened to me.

Guess there is some truth to it right? That is why you are Paranoid. By the way, thanks point out "barely coherent", you understand no problem? If even someone "barely coherent" has better grades than you then why are you bark around. The point is you got paranoid because it is the truth. I have the letter right in front of me, how can you dispute.
Everyone got emails for power went out, I haven't deleted them. So don't lie.
I have to point that out that the story regarding a student who killed in a fight, I hears from two friends, who happened also from IAU and is just transferred to Europe (for reasons stated in all the other posts in this Forum, I will not repeat), nor I will reveal their names to protect their identity. but they are from your class and you know I am speaking the truth. The student was killed while waiting for the clinical, it did not happen on Campus, the story was told to me to highlight how long you have to wait for Clinical.
You just remind me to shade light on another fact. Before the first day of class, one of the instructors even said, "watch what you put on End-of-Semester evaluation, because by the end of the semester I already know your handwriting … I have ways to find out who you are." with a grin on his face. Everyone was told later on no recording allowed except when special permission was grant. (No wonder …) But I have the recording before that. I have the recording in case you want dispute again. This is the same tactic Mr. Andrew try to employ for anyone identify who you are and report to school's authority while win some praise from them, which is why no one in school to speaks. (By the way, you are probably one of the kiss-a**es they are talking about.)

    This is just school's culture.

Everything I said was the truth, I think instead of hiding the truth and attack anyone tries to speak, the better way is address the issue. Congras on becoming the spokes person for the school, btw.

By the way, among many other pooh poohty things I will share this one, because it particularly chilled my initial enthusiasm for IAU, there was this school’s consoler I went to see, she said she was a psychologist, so I spoke to her as regular Psychologist who is not directly involved in your daily life, someone you share everything. After we finished, she told me she teaches one of my classes later on, 10 minutes later, as I walk to the faculty hall to ask a question, I overheard she was talking about me, paid more attention chatting with one of the faculties regarding the content of our conversation involving laughter and etc. This is right before we stated Medical Ethics (Introduction to Medicine) teaches you beyond how important patient privacy is. I was wondering how do you expect students to learn and model after these instructors when they act like that. Maybe it didn’t happened to you but it did happened to me and it really changed how I feel over all about the school, killed all my enthusiasm. The problem with privacy and how the school gets into your personal Business was reflected in many other posts in this Forum, it is not just me. It’s a shared concern.

This is a free country, anyone feel free to speak their mind, that is how information gets exchanged" this is how people improve.

Why would anyone bother call him, when you already know what you going to hear. He got a streak to protect.

I agree here I most highlighted the downside about the school, that will be normal someone’s reaction after what they have done. They do have certain faculty’s teaching is among the best I have.

That said well good luck to you if liked the school. (Andrew it probably takes a long time for you to write a short response like that, huh? Correct down to each punctuation, afraid of I might retaliate. (I bet if I look closely I still can find many mistakes. Laugh out laud) ) Any ways, I choose my way, if you like it you can stay there, but no one can prevent you speaking your mind. Anyone need proof of what I point out feel free to PM me. With this said, peace all.

Oh good, you replied. So it is you then Mark, as I thought. I mean, it kind of had to be. There are only two crazies on this island that I know about, but I know the other could at least write properly. Her tales were fantastic, schizophrenic and delusional, but at least she made grammatical sense.

By the way, thanks point out "barely coherent", you understand no problem? If even someone "barely coherent" has better grades than you then why are you bark around.
By "barely" coherent, still means somewhat coherent, so yes, I was able to understand what you wrote...barely. See where that "barely" comes in? Also grades are confidential, so that'd be difficult to prove. Either way this isn't a pissing contest, merely stating my facts so people don't get a warped opinion.

Everyone got emails for power went out, I haven't deleted them. So don't lie.
In my 2.5 semesters so far, I don't recall class ever being cancelled due to power outages. We had no water during the day once, so afternoon classes were cancelled. But welcome to the Caribbean, sometimes it storms pretty hard. These crazy things called "Hurricanes" and "Tropical Depressions" can put quite a stress on the plumbing.

I have to point that out that the story regarding a student who killed in a fight, I hears from two friends, who happened also from IAU and is just transferred to Europe (for reasons stated in all the other posts in this Forum, I will not repeat), nor I will reveal their names to protect their identity.
Ok, well that makes a little more sense. A student who just wrote his Step 1 was killed in Kansas, in the US I believe, yes, that is 100% true. But that doesn't affect our security on the island, so the context you used it in previously is false.

Before the first day of class, one of the instructors even said, "watch what you put on End-of-Semester evaluation, because by the end of the semester I already know your handwriting … I have ways to find out who you are." with a grin on his face.
Maybe, maybe not, I'm not in your class so I can't say one way or the other. Possibly a joke? That would explain the evil grin.

I don't agree with the no recording, but I guess the professors due it to cover their own *** if they teach something wrong. That being said, people record in every class with recorders placed by the professor, so it is clearly not being upheld. Now why you would want to listen to them more than once is beyond me, but that is besides the point.

Me being called a kiss *** is cute though.

Everything I said was the truth
False. Some was your opinion, some may have been of the truth. Most was fabricated or imagined.

By the way, among many other pooh poohty things...reflected in many other posts in this Forum, it is not just me. It’s a shared concern.
Can't speak on this one obviously, since I've no idea. The councilor is a good lady though, very nice. Not a very good professor though, she can definitely use some work. (Would kiss ***** say this since the school obviously monitors this forum?)

Why would anyone bother call him, when you already know what you going to hear. He got a streak to protect.
Because I'm pretty awesome and provide some excellent conversation. And beef is rare down here, so ya, I'd probably fight you for my steak. EDIT: Sorry, I thought you said steak, misread it, my fault. Kind of craving steak now...Anyways, no idea what streak I am protecting. If you're implying I work for the school, you are mistaken. I'll gladly tell everyone the pros and cons of IAU, but I'll obviously discredit misinformation, it is my school afterall.

That said well good luck to you if liked the school. (Andrew it probably takes a long time for you to write a short response like that, huh? Correct down to each punctuation, afraid of I might retaliate. (I bet if I look closely I still can find many mistakes. Laugh out laud) )

Anyways, nice chat. Hopefully I cleared some of it up. If anyone needs or wants any information don't hesitate to ask. Can PM me on here, email me at [email protected] or call me at 758-715-4924. The name is Andrew Johnson.

    Cheers

This neveragainIAU (or as Andrew puts it.... this is Mark who for the record i have no idea who he is cause i finished basic sciences at IAU back in December ) is clearly either a)delusional b) retarded or c) instead of putting blame on his own self, studying hard and AVOIDING drama has nothing else better than come on a forum and bash this school. Props to you Andrew for writing a response back and showing this moron whats up.

Firstly in my short time being at IAU as i transferred in, I knew a couple things. First off it didn't matter where the school was on the island, who was running it and who was at the school currently. My dream and current goal still is to become a doctor. full stop. Sure i had my struggles but i had no one to blame but myself. And I knew my own capabilities to study hard, learn the material in ways that yes the teachers dont teach. But going to a Caribbean medical school will do that buddy. You should have known better. If you had any smarts you would have known that that's not how things are ever in the Caribbean.
Secondly as for things like clinicals (which in atlanta you can start on any monday of any month as soon as you get your step score), transcripts you are 100% WRONG. Please go bury your head in your a** cause i did the same process almost a year ago. And i know exactly what was needed in order to get acceptance. You sir are full of S***.

But that's not why I've actually bothered to reply to this post.

"Safty is a big concern, (One of the more senior student was killed just recently killed during a fight, the good thing is it is not on campus. It is also on the news.)

Really sucks have to worry about your safety in Medical School."

Honestly for someone who complains about drama you have your own problem if you dont know the facts about the student that was killed. Look who's stirring up drama now? I didn't know him personally but many of my classmates did but what happened to him was FAR AWAY FROM CAMPUS AND THE ISLAND. And you are a complete disgrace for bringing that up, fudging the facts and making it, and i quote here "Doesn't matter what happens to you this is what happened to me". Dont bring up things that you dont know the full story to, let alone try to use it to bash the school.

I really hope you arent at IAU anymore. I know enough people down there still currently who i know can make good doctors. But by your attitude and complete ignorance of simple day to day facts.... god help you becoming a doctor cause no patient would want a delusional man treating them.

Unnoticed, Mr. Andrew just answered the other post "why there is no IAU Students here" perfectly using his action. (So no worries, you just got yourself a 100, not sure I can beat that.) Maybe there is a lot of s*** happening, but no one want to risk to say it. They don't want to be identified. If they can't say what they want as well as do't say it, and maybe mot everyone has two faces.

And sure … whatever you said is true, whatever other people said is false . That's B.S. But who cares, it's not my business anymore. The power outage is a fact, unless you did not show up for classes in spring. I agree this is not a pissing contest. You still make fun of my spelling, because English obviously is not my first language, but imagine you take test in a language other than English and also get number 1 in your class, I don't think so.. (I don't think who is number 1 in classes is private information for IAU)
    Thanks for mentioning private information..
EDIT: "Some were your Opinions." And I want to faceslap you for give me that sign. By the way, I did not bash the school I just bought the facts up us accurate as I know it, and I specified the circumstance around. Maybe it's not what you want to hear, but it was what I have to say. I noticed it only took you a few hours to reply, that is some swift responses.

I am not going to waste my time on this stupid IAU forum anymore. I no longer have any business to be here. Second, my time is more valuable that yours, I don't have infinite amount of time to waste like you. It doesn't matter for me.. I couldn't care less.
    Bye.

Whoever this dumb*ss is, as I said whatever I said was from what I know to my best knowledge. I was slightly upset some of the things happened. as I stated I highlighted mostly the negatives. You may agree or not agree, but it's not justified for the name calling, it showed how immature and irresponsible you are and it won't represent too well of your school. I hope you don't become a doctor either, because no patient want a doctor this immature to treat them. Again, I am done with this topic, I don't have in finite amount of time to waste like you. It matters nothing to me. I couldn't care less. Bye.

Ill give you some points. Sure its not justified for name calling but what to do when you have someone incompetent on the other side of the forum? And good job your opening sentence read dumb*ss so clearly you dont uphold your own views... cause that makes you as immature and as irresponsible as me... WELL PLAYED.
Do me a favor. Dont respond, dont respond to anything on this forum. My only problem with you was stating false things, not about the school and your complaining about what happened for this power outage.... but about that certain student. So don't worry your pretty head about me being a doctor... already half way there and there's nothing stopping me but myself (and you really should worry about yourself getting thru med school rather than others actually becoming doctors... but ill leave it at that). What really pissed me off is yes you can be pissed. But don't be immature and starting spewing stuff that you have no clue on that has NOTHING to do with your little power outage.
    Apologize and move on.
Good luck with your future endeavors.
p.s. just saying someone who replies to this at 6 in the morning clearly has finite time and does probably care (unless youre foreign and are out in Europe then ignore this lol)
