    Questionable associations

    Advertisements

I noticed on the website of IAU a reference to “Empire Group of Educational Institutions, Dubai & India.” It is further stated that the president of IAU is also a “director” of “Empire Group of Educational Institutions, Dubai & India.” When you visit the website for Empire Group of Educational Institutions, you will see a list of schools, among which is medical school in Dubai called “UEIMS school of medicine and dentistry”. Their website is: Universal Empire Institute of Medical Sciences

If one looks closely at UEIMS School of medicine and dentistry, one would quickly discover that this school is really a shell with no apparent legal authority to grant degrees in Dubai. The degrees are coming from IUHS in St. Kitts and the University of Seychelles - American Institute of Medicine. Interestingly both of these schools have had a very checkered past, with IUHS being the most notable of the two. The set up in Dubai is directed at attracting Indian kids from India. It is highly doubtful that this arrangement would qualify these Indian students for licensure by the GMC in UK or the Indian medical Council in India. This looks like the St Christopher debacle all over again. Except this time it’s Dubai and the students are solely Indians.

The Association between the principal of IAU and IUHS is disturbing and should raise a red flag in the minds of prospective students. IAU is not mentioned as one of the schools belonging to Empire Group of Educational Institutions. Be that as it may, potential applicants should scrutinize the apparent joint ownership of Empire Group of Educational Institutions and IAU together with their close connection with to IUHS.

A while back, another poster made reference to this alliance between IAU and those other questionable medical schools. The IAU responded on this forum that they terminated their relationship with IUHS as soon as they realized that a degree from IUHS would lead to licensing problems. However, according to the website I included here, that relationship appears intact but directed at students from India. The same group also operates a medical school in the Philippines. I am not going to get into that because I think people get the point.

I would be careful with this school notwithstanding the NY approval. You never know what happens down the road when it is time to apply for an unrestricted license. Sometimes, people have to be judged by the company they keep.

I very closely looked at IAU 14 or so months ago and I noticed the same problems and decided to stay away from IAU and instead joined another school that has credibility.

Although IAU is not supposed to be part of the empire group, it does share some characteristics with those schools that are part of the empire group----- rented facilities and the bare bone essentials so the school could be closed down in hurry if need arises. There was some talk on this forum about building a new campus in 2008. It is 2010 and they are still in those rented facilities.

I hope a school official can respond to the alleged "Questionable Association" issue.

You should come see for yourself about the facilities offered here. It is in a leased facility and we have everything we need. The management has invested millions of dollars in this campus and is further expanding. If you dont like it for some reason, there are definitely other choices in the caribbeans today. In fact I suggest that you should visit all the schools that you are considering and then decide for yourself.

I personally dont think that studying in a rented facility is a problem as long as the learning enviornment is maintained. We would probably be here for another 18 months before a campus can be built. One must be patient. Every school must travel through these stages to become like the "Big 4". IAU has been around for 6 years. If you are to compare us with schools that have been around for 30 years, I must say we are proud of where we are in just 6 years.

The group that we referred to on our website is the Universal Empire Group – It is not the same as Universal Empire Institute of Medical Sciences. These are two different entities operating in two different parts of the world.

International American University is chartered and authorized by the Government of St Lucia to independently confer various undergraduate and postgraduate degrees including the Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree.

We are not associated with IUHS or UEIMS or any other medical school for the operation of our school. The only affiliation we have is with Texas A&M Commerce for our Pre-Med Program.
