    About Financial Aid

    Advertisements

    Hi,
I am in the process of applying to medical school for the summer of 2011. I am a mother of two 5 and 10 and would like to go to a schooll that meet my needs. I' m leaning toward applying to AUC or ROSS only because the schools have FASFA. I live here in Chicago and work at Mont Sinai hospital(MSH) as a nurse. I have spotted quiet a few of IAU students in the careteriat at MSH. Your school appears to meet many of the needs that I am longing for a med school to possess. These attributes consist of a low cost tuition, only 4 semester in the carib, small size classes of only 30 students, 5th semester and clinical rotation at home in Chicago. But, the only one annoying subject is the lack of financial aid( NO FASFA).
Please, I would like to know for those students who are attending, how are you paying for your school tuition? Did you take loans? If you did how much did you get? and what institution did you obtain loans from? Are there any other means used?
    Is the school family friendly?

    Sincerely

If you can get into ROSS or AUC, you must definitely go there. There is not sufficient reasons for you to consider IAU.

The total cost of MD at IAU is around 75K. There are no loans. All students end up paying out of pocket. You might be able to get scholarships to cover some portion of your basic science program, but thats about it.

Or you must be able to manage personal loans outside the school. Contact your personal bank and ask them.

Thank you Dr. Kidd for your honest response. Even thought I live in chicago but I do not have the connections to come up with the tuition. I'm seriously considering attending AUC as I'm researching about the schools. If AUC has a public schools option for children to attend, I will definetely go ahead and apply to the school. IAU is looking very steady also and I applaud the students who are attending as they will probably have less debt after med school compare to myself who may owe tuice as much when it all is said and done. I wish I could win a powerball lotery right these moments to pay for school.

    Sincerely

I agree entirely with Dr. Kidd. Go with Ross or AUC over any others for the above mentioned reasons

This 75K is just tuition. Housing, book and living expenses are extra.
