    Financing My Education at IAU

    Advertisements

I was recently accepted to the entering January 2010 class at IAU. I am not excited (*yet*) because I am worried that I may have to decline the acceptance due to the lack of finances. Could I hear from IAU students (past or present) about how they have financed their education. Thank you.

    Hi RaRa,

I am starting at IAU in Sept 09. I was able to manage a loan thru the school. Its not a 100% deferred loan, but more like a line of credit. I am having to make monthly payments. If you have good credit, then you might be able to get funds for tuition thru the school. I have some personal funds saved up for living. But thats my story. Let me know if you need any further info.

Thanks, metrocrest for the information. How were you able to obtain this loan thru the school. Also, once you were accepted, how long did it take to receive a Welcome Packet?

There is some amount of paperwork involved. I got a financial packet within a week of me sending back the acceptance response form and it had information on scholarships and loans and a bunch of applications. You are going to need a cosigner though.

Hey im in the same boat, i've been accepted for sept 09, but i have no idea how im gonna fund myself. The loan through the school doesnt offer much other than strictly tuition. I was wondering if anyone knew any bank or loan company that will do private student loans for IAU students.

Hey same here, I am in a tough position with the loans and such and if anyone who knows private banks that will fund more than just tuition please let us know. This is the only way I will be able to attend IAU lol and I have already gone through so many banks who have told me to deal with FAFSA but our school as well as 90% of the schools in the Caribbean are not listed in FAFSA. There has to be an easier way for this. Help!!

I dont know if this will help. But I went with the TFC loans offered by the school for tuition. And I got a personal loan from citibank to help finance my living expenses. I have some money saved up for atleast a year's living expenses and am planning to use the citibank loan as a back up. Right now its really tough to get personal loans though.

    Loans

Hey metrocrest, I just read your post for loans and such and I had a few questions for you. When did you receive your welcome packet with the loan stuff as well as how long did it take for your loan to come through for tuition, because I still have not received that yet. Also for your personal loan through citibank, how did you go about getting that. Like what did you tell citibank. And if you do not mind me asking, what is your interest rate that you are paying for TFC and through citi. Thanks for all your help and hopefully everything works out so I can actually attend medical school there.

Financing medical education is a big challenge... I have read about some people registering for masters programs along with their MD and getting stafford and FAFSA. Wonder if anyone has tried that yet...

I got the TFC loan but it strictly covers only the tuition cost. I believe some students are doing their masters online and getting stafford loans. That is one good way, but you will have to take extra classes while being in medical school. Kaplan and University of Phoenix offer online programs.
