    Is IAU accredited?

    Advertisements

I have heard different things, mostly bad, some good, about IAU. I'm a little worried, but my biggest concern is accreditation.

    1) is IAU accredited?
    2) can graduates practice in all 50 states?
..........threads say not NY...IAU reps say not CA?
    3) any other serious issues? beside what has been mentioned

    1. IAU is fully accredited as any other carribean medical school as in ECFMG, IMED - FAIMER, WHO, Chartered in the country where it operates etc. Please see our website for detailed information.

    2. No, IAU graduates cannot practice in all 50 states. There are a few states that are "resistant" to foreign medical graduates. These are CA, TX, NM, ID, VT, IN, KS, AR, AK,TN & ND. However once you obtain a license in another state and become board certified you may be elligible for licensure in most of these states except CA and states that follow the CA list of Approved Schools.

Note that there is no restriction for licensure in NY. However for clinical rotations there is a 12 week max limit since accreditation with NY medical board is still pending. No residency in NY as well. Those are the facts.

What are the plans for NY approval if any?
Is it true that IAU got rejected after the last NY site visit and the administration has made several promises of another site visit?
What are the advantages (if any) of coming to IAU over any other Caribbean Medical School?

After the last NY visit - the NY board made some suggestions for implementation. IAU promptly administered those changes and are eagerly awaiting their next visit. Its up to the NY state board to schedule the next visit and the administration has nothing to do with it.

There are several advantages of joining IAU over any other Caribbean Medical School. Small class size, High faculty to student ratio, Excellent Teaching Faculty, Case based Curriculum, Early Clinicals, NBME Board exams after each semester, Extensive Preparation for USMLEs to name a few.

The average class size is 15 - 20. The max limit is 25.

I believe IAU admissions is mistaken, we actually still can as IAU graduates obtain residency in New York even if we are not NY approved.

You can only get licensure in NY w/o NY approval, residency and clinicals are off limits. This
