    H4B vs residency

    Advertisements

    Hi All,

I am an IMG on H4b (spousal visa, sad to say dependent on my spouse's H1).I want to know if someone like my status can get residency on H1 visa.

    What i heard is,that i can't get H1 if i have done only step 1 and 2.However i can get J1 with this combo of H4b and Step 1 and 2.

OR,i could take step 3 as well and then get residency on H1.

Please let me know if its right or not.I would truly appreciate.U guys have been so helpful for preparation.

Great Good luck to all applying this year.

HI! I'm also an IMG and hoping to land an H1b visa next year in internal medicine. Is it possible for me to bring my family, wife and daughter, as dependents in case I am able to land an H1b visa, and If possible what is the procedure? I would really appreciate your expert opinion. thank you very much and hope to hear from you soon.

I would suggest that you take and pass step 3, then look for programs that would sponsor H1b visa. A friend of mine had the same condition as he was dependent on his wife's working visa. I think He was offered an H1b even though the program does not usually do so. You have a better chance of entering a residency position compared to IMGs with no stable visa of any kind. Just have good scores.

    h4 and h1

Keep in mind that your H4 visa counts towards the 6 year limit of your "future H1b visa".

    yes there's extensions, but...

Yes, it's true that u can apply for H1 extensions, but typically the employer is also applying for a greencard for you. In other words, if your H1 runs out (6 years) but your greencard application is in process, then an H1 extension is possible. Timing is sometimes a little tricky though as you have to have your PERM processing (all online now, however there is a massive delay for citizens of certain countries...eg. India and Pakistan) and your work permit all in order prior to greencard sponsorship.
