    not married but.....

Did anyone actually start dating their SO when their SO was enrolled in med school? It seems that so many of you have been married or seriously involved before med school was in the picture. I was just wondering, because my boyfriend is in his 3rd year and we have been together for about a year. so I met him when he was already in school, and we don't have the super strong base the rest of you speak about.

I guess this hasn't been the case for any of you.

I am looking for us to stay together but it often gets hard not being able to see each other hardly at all, something I am sure many of you understand.

Does anyone have any advice on how to make it easier? I really, REALLY don't want to be the kind of person who nags at him.... he is doing exactly what he has always wanted to be doing.

    Response.

    Salutations "soleise":

You can try arranging certain times of the day or week to talk with him for a while. I'm sure he can take "some" time out of his busy schedule to talk with you, either via an instant messenger program (AIM, Yahoo, MSN, Google Talk, etc.) or at least communicate with you via e-mail. In addition, you can also use AIM, Yahoo, etc. to talk with him using a microphone. Hey, if you really want to see one another, you can also use a webcam while you are talking. These are simply some suggestions that I have tried when I talk with my girlfriend back in the states.

The bottom line is, you can try to make it happen. I believe in faith so if faith wills it, then you two will still be together even after medical school. So let faith work its magic. Good luck. Ciao.

seriously, a relationship is about compromise...you gotta give and take out of your busy schedules to make time for each other.

and if he isn't willing to do that, maybe he isn't the type of person who will make time for you.

if are meant together, you will get through this difficult time together, but if not, it may be better to part ways sooner than later.

take care and best of luck!

    Give it time

Med school or no. That strong foundation you speak of comes through a lot of self sacrifice and giving. No relationship or set of circumstances are perfect. Behind each good long term relationship you'll find two long suffering individuals who were patient during the tough times. If your boyfriend is a great guy hang in there. Right now you have to be willing to take the backseat because med school is ALL consuming. I admire you because not many women are able to make that kind of sacrifice.
