    Breaks during Clinical Rotations

    Advertisements

    Hello everyone,

I am a SO of a future SGU student. I was wondering if they have any breaks during their 3rd and 4th years(Clinical Rotations)? I'm trying to decide on time frame for a wedding, and I was wondering if they ever get a week break or longer. Do they have a Christmas, Spring, or Summer break? Also, do u know if they have a break between thier 2nd year and their Clinical Rotations? It looks like they will be off between May and the beginning of September, but I wasn't sure if this is correct.

If anyone could help me out, it would be greatly appreciated

    breaks

I'm going to let an SGU student/s.o. answer this one.

All I can tell you is that for AUC, there is at least a week's break between semesters - for the Christmas break it is quite a bit longer. I would only guess that it is the same at SGU.

    breaks....

First of all congrats on the marriage. The time between 2nd year and clinicals will be spent to study step 1 and taking the extra time is recommended and marriage at that time would likely add alot of stress to both of you.
Between clinicals is easier. The only problem is that SGU have clinical centers which basically allow you to do 3 rd year back to back without a break. So thrid year is out. Then 4th year is the most flexible where you could take a break between rotations for whatever reason. But you have to keep in mind that if you take breaks you have to finish all your clinicals in a certain amount of time the rest of the weeks you can use as you please.
The other option is if you enter in January class you will have 4.5 years you finish 4 years of work which means an extra 6 months for studying for step 1 and 2 and then for rotations. This could be advantageous for you if you want to get married between 2nd year and clinicals. You can take the extra few months to get married and then he could take his step and start clinicals with the class right behind him (August class if he entered in Jan) since he will graduate with them anyways.
If you enter in August you only have a summer break between 1st and second year for about 6 weeks. No spring break and a 4 week winter break for the first two years. Holidays during clinicals are determined by hospitals.
Hope this helps more than confuses you. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me.

    breaks

My bad - I just realized you were asking about Clinical years. There is a break for Christmas usually, but no others, for AUC. Sorry!

Fourth year is pretty flexible, it all depends on how your SO sets up his elective rotations.
