Starting over (for nine weeks) in Miami as a teacher?

    Advertisements

    Hi All
I was wondering if anyone has done this?
I have been checking out both the Florida Department of education and Miami-Dade school district¡¯s web sites, and am very lost. I think my best bet would be subbing (temporary certification) for 9 weeks as opposed to applying for ¡°professional certification.¡± Any thoughts?

i am original from florida and i looked into subing before going to med school...it is much easier to become a sub....i would just sub if you are only going to be there for 9 weeks.....

florida always has a need for subs...

If you fail at AUC, SGU, or Ross why not transfer to SMU, if you fail at SMU, why not try another SMU.

    no prob

You could probably get hired easily without professional certification, but the district and the school prinicipal would want your assurances that a.) you are going to be around for the whole school year, and b.) you plan on finishing certification within 3 years per federal law.
They will show you the door if you say anything like "only 9 weeks", and if you don't tell them that they'll not be a good job reference later, anyway. Perhaps you might get a gig as a permanent sub for a teacher who is out for maternity leave, illness, etc. I would ask about that, but most of those deals go to folks they already know.
Just my own experience as a teacher.
    Good luck!
