Long distance relationship while in caribbean med school

    Advertisements

    Hey guys !

So, I will be going away for medical school within the next few months...and I am going overseas. I am currently in a relationship and we have been together for 7 months (and going strong!) I'm pretty excited about starting school, but I'm sad that I have to leave my boyfriend behind.
He talks about marriage, and he says I am the one and that we will make things work, but I am still super nervous. I don't want to have my heart broken while I'm at school.
    Any advice ?

I know that LDRs can work if both put in the necessary time/effort. Does anyone have experience with this?

    Thanks !

    Hey!

I've been in a LDR for almost 6 years now. While our distance is not as long as it was previously in our relationship, we live 3 hours away from each other right now. At the beginning of our relationship, we lived a whole two states away. Everything was against us, or that's how it seemed, anyway. But we found a way to some how make it work - and we were just 15 at the time. We're 21 now & still going strong. We talked on the phone a lot & we were always on skype or some time of video chat. Anyone can make it work - you just have to really love that person. Sometimes, a LDR will show you that the person you think you want to be with really isn't that person. Good luck to you girl! I'm sure you guys can pull through.

    Hey Courtney !

Thanks for your reply ! I will be overseas for 4 months at a time beginning in January...I know that he will try and visit at least once (if time and money permits.) As of now, we spend almost every waking minute with each other. It's crazy (lol). I'm trying to cherish every single moment we have together before I leave. Just the thought of not seeing him for 4 months kills me ! But, he is very reassuring and supportive, so I know that if we really want this to work, it will...we just have to be strong

It is difficult and hard and there are times when it will really suck (especially as you spend so much time together at the moment), but I reckon if you surround yourself with friends and keep yourself occupied you'll be fine.

Best of lucK to you both!

You're so welcome! Trust me, I know how you feel. There was times I didn't see my boyfriend for months on end. What I still do to this day is keep him involved in my day, so he doesn't feel totally left out. (Like, sending pictures, etc.) It helped us a lot. No worries! It'll be hard at first, but as time passes it gets easier. The plus side of a LDR is that you'll never take time with that person for granted. Good luck though!
