    Perhaps:

    A) Paramedics/EMTs have already seen the blood, guts & gore so being uncomfortable with real patients has already been dealt with.

    B) You can network with doctors to see if they can help you out

This might sound like a dumb question but are we supposed to take an EMT course in Med school or residency? And would taking the course now before med make me exempt from taking it again, as long as I am certified?? Thanks again all.

Being an EMT helps with the clinical aspect (patient interaction, the shock of blood/guts/etc) I've seen my fair share of it just in a year at my station and with ride alongs with LifeFlight and MedFlight. It does NOT however help with residencies.

Shiz- I dont think theres an EMT class with Med School. I think they make you CPR and ALS certified. Perhaps someone whos in Med School will chime in.

I'm starting med school in May but am currently working as a paramedic. I know that we'll need BLS (CPR) sometime in med school and I believe residents take ACLS but I'm not sure if that is also during the MD program or post grad. CPR is always good to have even as a regular citizen. jmo

I agree with med etudiant, the previous exposure to patients and gore will make the transition to medicine easier, but really I think that's kindof the limit to it's usefulness practically speaking. my 2 cents.

    Hi there,

Getting the EMT license is not tough. You can join CPR training classes, complete your training at your place, then get your license and start help others. For more information related to CPR classes and a license visit to mn-emt.com.
