University of Sydney (DMD) Doctor of Dental Medicine Program

  • Length of program is 4 years
  • Admission information:
    • All applicants must have completed, or be in the final year of, a bachelors degree at the time of application in order to be considered for admission
    • Pre-requisite courses in at least three of the following at the undergraduate level: anatomy, bio­chemistry, cell biology, human genetics, immunology, microbiology, pathology, or physiology.
    • GPA: 2.7 out of 4.0 scale
      • The GPA results from your Bachelors degree is used only as a hurdle. For example, a score of 2.7 and a score of 4.0 are ranked equally in terms of selection for interview.
      • Averaged over final 3 years of undergraduate degree with each year being weighted equally

    • Admissions Tests Accepted (only one of the following tests is required)
      • GAMSAT
      • MCAT: no less than 8 on any individual section no less than an ‘M’ in the writing section
      • CDAT or DAT exam: minimum of 15 in each section (carving score will not be used)

    • Interview required
      • Interviewed online via Skype
      • MMI format with 5 interview stations
      • Held in late July and early August 2012

  • Application Deadline: July 13th
  • International Student Quota: there are about 40 places for both domestic AND international students and international students will be accepted based upon the competitiveness of their applications
  • Estimated tuition per year: $62,880 AUD


University of Melbourne (DDS) Doctor of Dental Surgery (Graduate Entry) Program

  • Length of program is 4 years
  • Admission information:
    • Successfully completed undergraduate degree in any discipline at any Australian or recognised international university
    • Completed prerequisite second year subjects (one each) in anatomy, physiology and biochemistry.
    • GPA
      • Will be measured by considering the last 3 years of the applicant’s undergraduate coursework studies (including Honours). Weightings will be applied by weighting the first of the final three years by 1, the second year by 2 and the final year by 3

    • Admissions Tests Accepted (only one of the following tests is required)
      • GAMSAT
      • MCAT
      • CDAT or DAT exam

    • The Selection Committee will give equal weight to the GPA and the MCAT or DAT/CDAT in determining offers to be made
    • The Selection Committee may conduct interviews and tests and may call for referee reports or employer references to elucidate any of the admissions requirements as outlined

  • Application Deadline: June 22nd
  • International Student Quota: there are 90 places for both domestic AND international students and international students will be accepted based upon the competitiveness of their applications
  • Estimated tuition per year: $62,400 AUD (as published for 2012)


Griffith University Bachelor of Oral Health in Dental Science + Graduate Diploma of Dentistry

  • Length of program is 3 + 2 or 5 years; Completion of the Bachelor of Oral Health in Dental Science provides automatic entry into the two-year Graduate Diploma of Dentistry. Successful completion of the two programs (5 years) will allow you to apply for registration as a dentist with all of the State Dental Boards in Australia.
  • Admission information:
    • Competitive secondary school/high school grade point average results with minimum average of 60% OR completed or partially completed Bachelors degree
    • Successful interview

  • Application Deadline: September 30th
  • International Student Quota: up to 5
  • Estimated tuition per year: $58,560 AUD


James Cook University Bachelor of Dental Surgery

  • Length of program is 5 years
  • Admission information:
    • Strong secondary school/high school grade point average results OR completed or partially completed Bachelors degree


  • At a minimum, you need to have successfully completed:


  • English, Maths B and Chemistry (Biology desirable)
    • Summary of selection process
      • Applicants will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
        • Academic performance in year 12 studies or in subsequent tertiary studies
        • Written component of the application form
        • A balance between school scores and your application form will make you a competitive candidate for this course.

  • Application Deadline: September 30th
  • International Student Quota: up to 12 (out of 80 total slots)
  • Estimated tuition per year: $44,000 AUD
