Questions about 1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University!

    Advertisements

    Hi everybody,

I'm an Italian student who is planning to study medicine abroad, more precisely in Czech Republic.
First of all, I was wondering how is the entrance exam for the 1st Faculty of Medicine, i.e do they require a specific and detailed knowledge of the three subjects (Bio, Chem and Physics)? Are the multiple choice questions tricky or not? I'm quite worried especially about this latter point.

Secondly, by checking the "Studies and Examination Regulations" of the Faculty I read that

    (9) A student can take an examination in a subject that he/she has enrolled for three times as a maximum, i.e. the student is entitled to two re-examinations. No extraordinary re-examinations (Article 68, Section 3(a) of the Higher Education Act) are allowed.

Can somebody explain me what does it mean? I understood that there are only three chances to pass an exam in one academic year, but what happens if a student fails all three times? Will he/she get kicked out of university or will simply be forced to repeat the course(s)/academic year?

Any further information concerning this is highly appreciated - Thanks in advance!

On their website they have a syllabus and some practice questions. I suggest you look at these.

I think the questions are fairly tricky. At least in comparison to the entrance examinations at the 2nd and 3rd faculty in Prague. Of course, everyone taking the test is in the same boat, so don't be too concerned about that

I'm not attending the first faculty, so I do not know the particulars but I can give you some general advice in regards to your questions here.

It really depends on how crucial the subject is which is determined by how many credit points the subject is worth. If the subject is very important (e.g. anatomy, physiology etc.) and you fail it, this could mean you do not have enough credit points to enter the next year and would be be kicked out. Conversely, if a subject is not so crucial (e.g. first aid, latin) and you fail it BUT pass all other subjects, then you would enter the next year without any problems. Of course, you would eventually have to pass these small subjects which you carried into the next year.

Thank you very much for the information you provided, I appreciate this!

By the way, I already checked out the syllabus and the sample questions they have on their website, but I found them surprisingly easy.
Here's why I was wondering if the practice questions are effectively similar to the ones of the real entrance exam or not
