BOOKS FOR ENTRANCE EXAM 1st FACULTY CHARLES UNIVERSITY

    Advertisements

    Hi Guys,

For those of you who have successfully passed the entrance exam at the 1st faculty recently, can you please advise/recommend what books you studied for Biology, Chemistry & Physics?

I did try and contact the faculty admission office directly, however the lady at the admissions office didn't sound like she wanted to be there and thus wasn't very helpful. There was another lady who was quite helpful but she mentioned that the exam is equivalent to the A-level standard. I'm from Australia and we have HSC or High School Certificate here. The syllabus is different to A-level and thus I dont want to miss out anything.

    Your assistance would be appreciated!

Would be great if you could recommend the books that you studied to pass the entrance exam!!!

There is a user by the name of Honzah who's also from Australia and took the exam a year ago. Perhaps you can send him a PM?

I read in a different forum to study using SAT SUbject test booklets. BUt for me I think what I'm going to do is just use any high school bio, chem or physics book. I have already graduated from university so I plan on going to Amazon.com and buying cheap old books from there (and by old I mean editions from 2002-2006). Also, some of the other E-EU med school actually list out topics you should now, so I saved them and plan on revising those topics.

SAT material is only good for physics

I passed the entrance exam in June 2011 and my study was almost solely based on SAT preparation material. The reason for this is that I was going for entry at the 2nd faculty who will permit automatic entry if you receive above a certain score on the SAT subject tests in biology, chemistry and physics.

Having said that, I think that only SAT physics is comparable to the entrance exam at the 1st faculty. If you read the Princeton review "Cracking the SAT Physics Subject Test" it will prepare you well for the test. There are plenty of practice questions in this book and some practice tests at the end.

K-B, you do realise if you want to do the entrance exam for the 2nd faculty, you will not need to fly to Europe to do so? You can just take the SAT subject test in your home town in Australia. I think it is offered 5 times per year.

so what do I suggest for chemistry & biology?
For chemistry I used "Organic Chemistry I - As a Second Language. Translating the Basic Concepts" You will only need to study a few chapters from this book to prepare yourself. Check with the syllabus of the entrance exam. Additionally, the SAT prep books will be partially useful here.

In regards to biology I remember nothing I studied helped me out at all. Unlike the exams at the 2nd/3rd faculty where the entrance exam questions were fairly straightforward I remember finding the 1st faculty questions rather abstract. In my opinion the SAT books did not help out at all. Unfortunately, I can't make any recommendations for you here.
