    Call abreviations? q?

    Advertisements

I always see call refered too by the letter q and then a number.... q3, q4, q12...

What do those mean? I have gathered that the higher the number the better right? But why?

Thanks if any of you know!

I believe q3 means every third night, but I could be wrong.

q3 would mean every third day, q4 every fourth, etc...

qod would mean every other day.

not in regards to rotations but i have definitely seen meds prescribed Q12.....i find it funny that in one chart they wrote Q12 then cancelled the prescription then wrote BID so the nurses wouldnt screw it up.....nothing against nurses, most are damn cute and smart.....but the ones at wyckoff.....riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight

I think if you are talking about hours there's supposed to be a little circle like a degree symbol at the top right corner of the number. Also, I think if you're talking days then every 3 days would technically be q3d.

nope, they write it q12, occasionally you see q12h......anyways its still funny the nurses screwed up when told q12 but not BID.....well they probably screwed that up at wyckoff too

Actually BID means twice daily but not necessarily 12 hours apart which is what q12 h means.
