Texas Attorney General decides in favor of THECB - AUC related

This past Tuesday, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott sent down his opinion regarding whether or not the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board had the authority to approve a certificate of authority for the American University of the Caribbean to offer clinical rotations in Texas. Abbott's opinion is that the THECB does have that authority. The question now remains if the THECB will grant the certificate to AUC. The THECB has indicated that the issue will be taken up again in January. There is also indication that the issue of international medical schools providing clinical rotations in Texas will come up during the 2013 legislative session. You may wish to keep a close eye on Senator ****** Zaffrini's bills. Also of interest is a study being conducted by the THECB - they are learning that most if not all of the Texas schools have international students performing fourth year rotations - few, but there are some. Opinion No. GA-0975
