    Traveling to South America

    Advertisements

I am planning to travel to South America in the future. However, most flights actually go to Miami, Florida (after leaving GND) and the cost is over $1200.

What do locals use (mode of transport, airline, website) to travel to South American countries without emptying their wallets?

I tried Expedia, AA, and Air Jamaica already.

    Thank you!

you might wanna try LIAT. they fly all over the carribbean. I know that there is a lot of bad stuff said about them...especially by me. But if you are just giong on a small trip and won't be carrying too much baggage, then you should be okay.

Most locals don't travel to South America.
Grenadian travelers are typically visiting family abroad - often their family reside in Toronto, New York/New Jersey, Florida, Georgia, and Texas.

However, there is a flight every Friday & Sunday to Porlamar, Isla Margarita (Venezuela). It's not available online through the airline's website (Conviasa) but you can book it through a local travel agent. They advertise a weekend package to the SGU community every now and then on SGU Post. The last time I checked the tickets were around 400EC per person - very cheap.

From Margarita you can get decent connections to much of South America.
Another decent option is through Port of Spain, Trinidad.

Trust me, we examined this extensively when i did the honduras selective in 2004. Miami and san juan are the international airports that pirmarily serve south and central america and the caribbean. You pretty much have to go through one of those to go from the caribbean to south america, unless you go to venezuela. In that case your will not have a round-trip ticket.

South America is one of the most diverse and interesting continents to explore. This is the place where you can see the second-highest mountain range in the Andes, the driest desert, the Amazon basin, best beaches for surfers, huge glaciers and unique wildlife which you won't find elsewhere. Each country on this continent offers you an incredible experience. The best locations I'd suggest you visit are Chile, Argentina, Brazil and Colombia.
