Looking for current students or alumni from CMU

    Advertisements

I am thinking about attending Caribbean Medical University. I want to speak to students or alumni about their experience and opinion of the school. I want to know about the quality of education, how well you are prepared for USMLE, what is the process for setting up clinicals in the U.S., how much assistance do you get while applying for residency, is CMU ever going to be listed in the World Health Organization directory, how important is a listing by the WHO for jobs, etc. I would appreciate everyones input.

No offense meant, but you need to really do some research into international medical schools. Unless you are a piss-poor student, you have no good reason to consider CMU as an option. And even the, St. James, St. Eustatius, Windsor and Aureus are out there to accept you. CMU is the bottom of the barrel even for bottom tier Caribbean schools.

What qualities make CMU this bad? What makes these four schools so much better? I have done research into several medical schools; CMU is the only school that have a live representative to chat with on the website. This 1 quality makes CMU look a lot more profession and attentive.

or with nothing better to do...

practically every school in the caribbean will connect you with a student or alum and you can talk to them directly on the phone...

if you are actually doing research on the caribbean medical schools, then you are judging them by superfical thing...its like buying a car cuz its a pretty color...

if you are seriously considering going to a caribbean med school, you need to ask the following questions

are they able to practice/obtain a license in all 50 states (or canada or the country you are interested in practicing in)
do they have loans (ideally Staffords) for your education and are they stable
how many practicing graduates, and graduates in training does this school have
what is the 1st time pass rate (and mean) for the Steps I, CK,and CS for their students
are the clinical rotations all ACGME accredited and how difficult (or what is the waiting time) to get rotations back to back
will you be able to get 3rd yr cores in 3rd yr?
do you get any pt contact in the basic science years? use of simulated pts? osce evaluation?
are questions in basics geared to the usmle format?
do they have up to date facilites? wifi? cadavers..how many students per cadaver?
    do they have housing available?

Dude! Dude, dude. Just because someone is able to "answer" questions online, does NOT mean you should go to medical school there. Do. Some. Research into international medical schools.

Please OXE dont listen to this guy. He is there there to promote AUA. CMU has all what St. James, St. Eustatius, Windsor and Aureus has PLUS:
    1. Real student loan
    2. Lots of rotations
    3. Campus that others can dream of
    4. Dorms
    5. U.S. Teachers
    6. Professional Administration
    7. Reasonable tuition
    8. Small class size

Do the research and you will find it out on your own. Call the campus and talk to the students or get in touch with SGA. Here you will only get head hunters that are paid to advertise their schools and bash others. Be smarter then them.

riiight...every SINGLE person who comes here that doesn't praise cmu to the high heavens is a head hunter....trust me a person who is looking at my alma mater is NOT even considering a place like CMU...

but unfortunately there are those that are new to the caribbean schools and they don't know any better.

you gave a list of things, but funny, you are not answering the questions that I put forth...why? because you can't answer them and sit have CMU look good.

Yeah...don't learn anything on your own or from people who have years of experience. Ummmm it's impossible that I would be promoting multiple schools here.

Waiting for the lawsuit like UHSA....nothing?

Wow. What else do I need to know? Complete scam claiming IMED listingfor a year or more. Trying to be American Global (SCAM-oh-liscious from Belize) for another year, and Finally getting the gov't to charter your school to get IMED listed? = Quality. Oh Yes. I know nothing!
