    New owners?

    Advertisements

    Hi,

Just a few questions? Is this school having new owners or did it re-open with the previous ones?
A classmate of my nephew arrived at Curacao a few years back and could NOT find this school that he paid for ...

I checked with the "local" newspapers and found a few old articles that this school was not real ...

Can a student (not a sales person) maybe reply?

Is it real?? I could not find out by the previous posts here...., they look almost too nice, especially about the loans.

So here are a few questions that are pondering me:

    Is this school really open?
How hard is it to get accepted?
Do they have these loans? If yes, with what institution are they? Can I contact them?
How many students were on campus the previous semester(s)?
Are all the professors on campus or are they "visiting" professors? What is the real ratio between instructors and students?
What is the ratio between "older" students and new ones?
    Is it safe at CMU?
I read about pollution with a "refinery" close-by. Does this gives health problems if you have asthma?

Can I email a few students that are already at cmu for a while and are NOT paid to answer me .... (it seems that some schools "employ" students to convince new students and I have heard too many sales pitches the last months ....)

I would want to start in a "good, safe and loan-friendly" school in Jan 2012, so I still have a little bit of time ....

thank you for your replies ....

    I.M.

Hello IMD4U. I am happy to help you. A lot of your questions are answered in my post under "Welcome to CMU! September 2011 Classes". I am a real student at CMU. The school has been open for 4 years (2007). Because of having to wait for IMED, it was very small, understandably. We got our IMED approval in July 2011 (last month) so our student body will be substantially larger. The IMED goes back to its beginning in 2007. Currently we have 18 students in rotations, 7 preparing for the step now, the first graduating class is in a month. The school has 67 rotation spots in the US.
As far as acceptance you would need to meet the requirements which are listed on the website. I think its the standard at most of the schools: required classes, good gpa, etc.
For loans, yes CMU has real loans. As far as I know all of us have gotten our loans. The school is strong and they back the loans in the US. The two things they look at are your credit score and GPA. You, or your co-signer, must have a 680 or up on your credit score and the stronger your GPA, the higher your approval amount is. The loans range from $10,000 to $20,000 per year. You can reapply after each semester. So if your GPA is a little lower, then you have the opportunity to raise your loan amount. It gives you the info on the loans on their website. But you can also call their Chicago office and they can give you more information. I don't work with the loans (just use them . But yes, they are real. Also, the nice part is that the cost of the semesters here are very reasonable, only $4900 verses $8000 to $11000 other places. In clinicals it is $6900 verses $11,500 to $14,000. So the loans make it very possible to pay for your tuition and living expenses, based on the approved amount. If you are not approved for the whole amount, it still doesn't leave much to come out of pocket- which is a life saver. It also may save you from having to take another online degree program to get money while you are trying to study medicine!
The professors are all here on the island. For specialty areas a guest professor may come in.
For the ratio this semester we still do not have final numbers because there are some final applicants finishing. But I believe at this time there is about 15 MD1, I really do not know on the MD2's yet, but maybe 6 (sorry), MD3's approximately 7, MD4's around 4+(not sure on this one either). With last semester being very small, but returning for their next semester, the majority will be new students because of the IMED listing.
Yes, it is safe at CMU. It is in the beautiful, modern World Trade Center which is in one of the nicest areas of Curacao- Piscardera. It is by the Hilton and Marriot. We have 2 cafeteria's, 1 pizza cafe, dorms, fitness center, bank, ATM, gift shops on site. A beach across the street and a nice mile long boardwalk along the ocean to walk or jog on. The campus and both student dorms are wireless. The nice thing about the dorms, they are very inexpensive and the cost ($300 double) and ($550 single) are complete- meaning NO other charges: this price includes: electricity, water, trash, cable, and internet! They are also putting in a washer and dryer in this September. They also have a school bus which provides transportation (no charge) to and from schools and to the grocery stores on Saturday.
This school also does not employ students or anyone to answer. That is one of the things I liked most when I checked into it. I always will speak to the students, students will tell you anything. So I went to the students and faculty and was pleased with what I heard. They did not know I was coming by their dorms, nor even who I was. They were very helpful and clearly very pleased with their school. I am the SGA president so am happy to assist you anytime. If I don't know the answer, I will do my best to find out. I am pleased with every aspect so far. I have no complaints.
The "refinery" close by is actually the water purification plant. It turns seawater into distilled water for the island. So our water, all of our water is extremely safe! It is about a mile from campus. No one that I am aware has had any problems with it at all. I live above where the school is and have never seen or heard of anyone having problems. The oil refineries (which is a totally different thing and story) are a long way from here. They are more in the center of the island.
As for Curacao (I have been on other islands). Curacao is nice, modern, and safe. It has most anything you could possibly want.
I hope this helps, it sounds like you have time to study what is best for you and what meets your needs. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Most of the students will be arriving the week prior to Sept 12 (start date), so I can always have more contact you at that time. You can also call the Chicago office and speak with them as well. The schools website is also extremely helpful.

I am interested in acquiring loans. CMU owes me money from the previous scam perpetrated two years ago. Send me the phone numbers of you loan provider. Would you return my money?
