    I chose CMU

    Advertisements

    Hi all
I just got accepted for the January session. I've seen informative posts on this forum but still have some questions. I dont care about few guys posting unverifiable "facts" about the school because obviously they are here to bash. I appriciate the info from current students as they are the most relabiale source of information.
By the way, I have only a good experiance with the school administation so far, especially the professional way they manage the school. Thats why being accepted to 3 med schools in the caribbean, I chose CMU.

I have been assigned to the new dorms on the campus case the other one is already full. They are supposed to be close to the campus thus little bit more expensive. Can anyone tell me how far they are from the school and whats around? How is overall living on the island?

    Thanks.

Congratulations doctobe80! I believe you have made a very good choice. I have been pleased with the same factors. Everything is very professional and I have seen nothing but support for the students and teachers here. The new dorms are nice, they are about 100 feet from the doors to the school! (really). You have 2 pools, on site restaurants, beach, fitness center and a beautiful 1 mile long walkway along the ocean (biking, walking, jogging). The expense is still extremely reasonable for most any other place to rent here in Curacao. Your rent (just as the older dorm) covers everything: internet, cable, electricity, trash, and water. To give you an idea, most of the places in Curacao will run from $800 to $1200 USD in rent and then you have to PAY all the other things: So if you add the internet (approx $55 USD), cable ($40 USD), electricity (VERY expensive here- if you don't use your A/C it will still run about $150/mo. If you use your A/C- you better be sitting down when you open the bill). The trash ($12 USD) and water (also expensive) is about $20 USD. So in all you are saving about $300 in extra cost above just your rent- AND you can use your A/C without worrying about running your bill up! That alone is worth a fortune! It is HOT here! If you are at the other dorm, its a little less expensive, but no pool and you have to take the school bus to and from school daily (which is N/C of course). Being that close you get to sleep in an extra 15 minutes!! Enjoy and congrats!!

I did chose CMU too and Im almost graduating. If u'll rotate in Chicago, they have an agreement with a apartment complex where u can rent a studio for about $650 a month. Here we have our students living as well as students of other schools in Chicago. Very nice and comfortable place.
