Hello Welcome to CMU! You may purchase books from CMU in Curacao. You may also be able to find the books used at a very inexpensive price on Amazon and just bring them with you. If you purchase books on Amazon be sure and check the box which shows you are a student and you will not be charged shipping fees (to the US only). Let us know if you have any more questions!

No, they just will help you do additional research and study. The best additional books will always be any of the BRS series and Rapid Review series. I also like the Pretest series. A lot of people like the NMS series as well. If you can get Kaplan 2010 that is very good. These will always give you great clinical test questions to practice which is the type of questions you will always have on your exams. The First Aid 2010 book is a MUST.
If you can only pick 2: then Kaplan and BRS series. The First Aid book is NOT optional- be sure and get it! You can usually get most of these pretty cheap on the used section of Amazon.com. Just be sure and check the student box in the shipping area so you get free shipping!

    Hello cmuthruth,
Hopefully I can help you some. I am the SGA president. The school is between semesters now so the office is closed. I believe they will be back in on a regular basis sometime the first week of September, as classes start Sept. 12. That would be why you have not been able to reach the office. We are actually in and out at the office during this break because we are working on the orientation program, white coat, and numerous other things. I think verokmed is new in Sept so I doubt think they would know any students from before, not having been here before. But if they do, I am sure they will let you know. I personally know some of the students from previous semesters and we are expecting a number of new students. Personally, I am hoping they keep a nice small campus. I learn far more than when I feel part of a cattle drive. I like the discussions and medical correlations that a smaller class offers. Not to mention there is time for questions as well. Most people do far better in smaller classes and they learn more. Its simply more personal. I know the school is continuing to receive applications daily. With our IMED now approved, being able to provide loans for tuition and living expenses, very reasonable dorms and transportation, we expect to continue to receive application for the next couple of weeks. So we do not know how many new students there will be as of yet. We have had some students come in already in order to get settled in the dorms and enjoy a little time at the beach before studies begin. Our program has been a tremendous help to many people and is giving them the real option of making their education possible! The loans allow you to qualify for all of your year's tuition and living expenses. Who else but the FASFA schools offer this? None that I know of. It is based on your credit score and gpa. You mentioned trust. As the SGA president, I have serious issues when you can't trust people. I just left a school for this very reason! The dishonesty was just unacceptable! There was no trust. I saw many people hurt and their lives destroyed on a whim. I have had nothing but a positive experience with CMU. They have done everything they have said and the support that I have seen them give me, the other students, the faculty and staff is tremendous. You are doing what I did when I checked out the school, I went to the student body first. Students will always tell you anything you want to know and how things REALLY are. I was pleasantly surprised. I found 100% respect and admiration for the administration, teachers and staff. Everyone had received what they had been told, no broken promises, the loans ARE real. I have one, in fact I think every student I spoke to had one. And I don't have to tell you their tuition rates are one of the most reasonable! $4900 verses $8000+. They have some really great plans for this semester- one in particular- no other school does. We will have a mobile clinic so that all the students can rotate in health clinics to the people around the island. What a great experience. There are a number of other nice things the school does for its students which I won't go into each right now. But they are all meant to assist their students and make them succeessful. We just finished with some fun things that the students will enjoy to help them feel that they are part of the school. They will be presented on orientation day! Hope you are there! I also personally know each of the teachers, and I can tell you they are REALLY good! And I don't just mean they are good at teaching, these people are GOOD people- from the heart good! You will be pleased. I believe that you will see really great things from CMU. You will also see constant steady, solid growth with each progressing semester since they have their IMED listing. The campus is beautiful and modern. It has any service- on site- you could ever need: 2 cafeterias, bank, atm, gift shops, post office, fitness center, great pizza next door! The school provides a bus for the students transportation to and from the dorms everyday and also to the grocery store on the weekend. I know the school is financially strong! Unlike others! It's GOING to be here years from now. We have 18 students in rotations now (we have 67 rotation spots- and ours are real. Unlike some other schools), 7 are preparing now for the USMLE and we have our first 2 graduates in a month. The students I have communicated with in their rotations have had NOTHING but positive things to say about the school. Curacao is also very safe and offers plenty to do. I just don't think you can ask for much more than this. If you have any other questions, let me know. If I do not know the answer I will do my best to get it asap. We want our student body to KNOW they have support here and KNOW they can trust their medical education to CMU. We will be promoting teamwork, support, and communication between the students, faculty, staff and administration! This is the way things are successful. We will NOT have a campus filled with drama and stress- like other campus's tend to specialize in. It is simply not possible to study when a campus atmosphere is filled with drama. Medical school is difficult enough without adding unnecessary, childish issues. You pay a lot of money for this education and that is what you should be getting! We always welcome your comments and suggestions. It helps us become better. Other schools will condemn you for this, they want no input. It is "their way or the highway" mentality. We want to be the highway to YOUR future! I personally believe you will be pleasantly surprised!
