    Canadians flying from TO

    Advertisements

    Hello all,

just started looking for flights to Grenada from Toronto.

They're relatively expensive (especially due to the required 5 month round trip ticket).

Flying to Grenada from Toronto (via chicago, and then sanjuan)
    is $1020 USD.

Flying Buffalo to Grenada (via chicago, and then sanjuan)
    is $640 USD.

***??? These were the rates quoted when using the St. Georges discount number and American Airlines. These are also the lowest quotes I've had so far.

Does anyone know why it costs so much more to fly out of Toronto? It looks like it just makes alot more sense for me to fly out of BUffalo, but it's also a major pain (Buffalo flight leaves at 6am, which means I have to be there around 4:30am!!! - this means I need to leave my house (with the warm cozy bed) at around 1:30am!!!

anyone out there experiencing similar problems? Anyone know why the difference in price?

    Cheers all,

    Silenthunder

    Try the Travel Kiosk

I would suggest you try the Travel Kiosk at the Peanut Plaza, 3010A Don Mills Road East (tel:416-492-8907; ask for Bev). Flying American via San Juan is not an experience one wants to live twice.
    Good luck.

Cheap flight from Toronto to Grenada

Don't bother with AA. You'll most likely get stuck in San Juan overnight and your bags will come a few days late (ask anyone at SGU!). AA uses a small prop plane to go from San Juan to Grenada and thus would rather fill seats in the plane than carry everyone's luggage. Same goes for Air Jamica.

The BEST way to get to Grenada from T.O. is Air Transat.

I flew with them last year for about $330 cdn round trip. Best of all, it was non-stop, and got to gnd a mere 4.5 hours later (vs. 10 hours later with AA).

Their prices are somewhat higher this year, but still much cheaper than AA, Air Jamica or the other big guys. check out www.titantours.com for more info on that.

Also, US AIR now flies to grenada and they have some decent rates. Also, BWIA does direct flights,. they had a special last month for $380USD for round trip from Toronto-->grenada.

    hope that helps

    re: specials etc.

    Thanx Harry,

Tried Titan tours. They said they don't book arrival and return dates that far apart, although I'll try again, because I got the feeling that the person on the phone was unsure of herself.

Also tried looking on the air transat website, and couldn't find a flight to grenada, although that doesn't mean there isn't one (I've found that most major carrier websites are crummy).

    Cheers,

    Silenthunder

    Air Transat

No, Titan tours wont let you book a flight with 4 months in between. What you probably should do is take US Air (return) to get there in JAN and return in June. Then take a one way in August when you go back for second term. Then for xmas, buy an Air Transat ticket in GND for GND---> TO and then return. The 3 weeks u get for xmas is perfect. They usually have an Xmas special that leaves GND for TO and it is very cheap. I know a bunch of people that used that flight this christmas.

Its complicated because you are entering in Jan and have 3 months off for summer, otherwise you could use AirTransat more often.

Also look into BWIA, they've had some specials for less than $400 USD for Toronto-->Grenada (return).

    um......

While I appreciate Harry's suggestions, this idea won't work,

You can't book one way tickets to the country. If you are a student you are required to have a two way ticket in order to enter the country.

If this wasn't the case, then I would just book one-ways all of the time with the cheapest provider.

While this stinks, just about all of the Caribbean countries work this way, so the students at other schools are just as SOL as we are.

    Cheers all,

    flights

i had my travel agent call titan tours and figure out if anything is feasible. the first problem is that as a charter airline, they only have so many flights, so you're sometimes stuck arriving too early, or too late. the second problem is that the ticket is only valid for a month or two max, because in order to operate a charter flight, you need to balance the passenger loads on each trip. if everyone flies to grenada and doesn't leave for 6 months, they have to send back an empty plane. conversely, after 6 months, they have to send an empty plane to pick up all the extra people on the island.

an idea i had was that you can book a normal carrier, arriving in jan and leaving in december. then you can buy a gnd-yyz-gnd round trip on titan for your summer break (~9 weeks). how much a 12 month ticket costs i don't know, but its a possibility.

if you're flying from t.o., go to travelcuts and use a go25 or isic card ($16, valid for 15 months). i'm paying about $1100 cdn for my round trip, but its a sweet ride. toronto to barbados, barbados to gnd. your luggage will make it, you get 140 lbs to bring, the planes are relatively large, and you don't have to deal with transit in the us.

    thanx!!

    Hey Nabhan,

Thanx for that suggestion!! I've already booked my flight with AA out of Buffalo (it was $800), but next time I'll definitely look into travelcuts. It sounds alot better than what I'm in for......

    Cheers all,

    Silenthunder
