    it is hard to match in Canadian Physician unless you have strong clinical reference.

    is very hard, try USA, but thats coming hard too, study and study at a Canadian or US Medical School.

    Looking at the numbers, I would say that it is probably quite hard for an IMG to match in Canada even with a strong clinical reference.

    How to succeed at the IMG match:

    1. Talk to the director of the program you're interested in.
    2. Arrange some sort of relevant clinical experience, whether that is an elective or a full on 1 year fellowship.
    3. Do a good job and be a good doctor in step 2.
    4. Get reference letters from your experience in step 3.
    5. Profit in CaRMS.

    Consider step 2 as a 4 week interview. Or a 1 year interview if you do a fellowship. Think about it. If there are 10 applications for one IMG spot and all applicants are the same (i.e. medical diploma, research, publications, etc), who are you gonna hire - the guy who spent 4 weeks working with you or one of the 9 random people you met for 45 minutes. Just saying.
